I don't mind using the repair install method, but it says that in Win 10, it does not preserve pre-installed apps.

That would be with a reset or refresh of Windows instead of a repair install. You won't loose them with a repair install.

I've just ran the tool, but it's failed:

You may need to use an ISO file that is for you same version, language, and edition of your currently installed Windows 10.

Brink, the problem is that I received the pc with win 10 already installed. Where do I get the iso file and how do I know which one?

If you have Windows 10 Enterprise installed, then you can get the latest version ISO for it at the Microsoft link below.

My version is not Enterprise...it's simply Windows 10 Pro:

In that case, you can get an ISO using Option 1, 2, or 3 below.

Thanks mate. I'm downloading it straight to a usb stick...that's okay, right?

Also will I need the product key? If so, how do I extract it?

You wouldn't be able to just copy the ISO to a USB and be able to boot from the USB. Instead, you could use Option One below to create it directly.

A repair install will automatically activate with your current product key, but the tutorial below will show you how to find it.
