    Win 10 Pro (22H2) (2nd PC is 22H2)

There's one really basic thing Win 10's start menu can't handle that CS does. Can anyone advise whether any 3rd party replacement can do this?

    The problem:
As you all know, installing programs creates a SM folder containing shortcuts. Fine. However, if you have a lot of programs installed, and organise them in categories in a nested folder structure, after about 3 folders deep, Win 10's start menu ignores the folders and simply lists the shortcuts in those folders in alpha order.

Thus you get (as I've posted a number of times)

    Help
    Help
    Help
    Help
    Help

etc down the LHS of the Win 10 SM. Each one relates to a different program. Any other shortcuts related to that program are scattered throughout the start menu list.

Which 3rd party program other than CS can deal with this? (In particular this arises where the SM structure is inherited from Win 7 and earlier- the designers of Win 10's didn't take this into consideration. It doesn't arise for fresh win 10 installations as you can't normally then create such folder trees).

Expected... it's insane to have 2 feature upgrades per year.

By the other hand, this gives me fear, because getting away from win32 will eventually break the software we use... somewhere in the future, will they try to force their app ecosystem? I hope they don't, that would be the downfall of Windows, Android did their stuff and works, this is not Android...
But isn't Microsft eventually moving Windows to an entirely UWP environment? Wont the Explorer "desktop" shell be eventually disappearing?

I certainly hope not. Can't imagine trying to work on an iPad.

Some members at TenForums claimed that they installed W10 Pro so they could control W10's behaviour.
To "improve their customer experience" MS removed a bunch of features and introduced a new version called W10 Workstation.

    As for endless support:
After May 9, 2017, Windows 10 devices running version 1507 will no longer receive security and quality updates. Microsoft recommends updating devices to the latest version of Windows 10 by visiting the Software Download site and selecting Update now to manually update your device. For additional info, check out the Windows lifecycle fact sheet.

I also expect that the LTSB versions won't be supported forever either.
LTSB was originally presented as an unchanging version, each iteration of which would be supported for 10 years, the same decade-long lifecycle as previous editions such as Windows 7.

But Microsoft gutted the value of LTSB when it changed the rules and declared that each LTSB would "support the currently released silicon at the time of release of the LTSB. As future silicon generations are released, support will be created through future Windows 10 LTSB releases that customers can deploy for those systems."

That meant customers running Windows 10 Enterprise -- the only edition that allows LTSB -- will be forced to upgrade to each LTSB release as they buy new PCs powered by new generations of silicon.

Whenever MS releases a new upgrade, this forum gets lots of requests for help from users whose machines have been broken.
My W10 Home has made 5 failed attempts to upgrade to 1709, so it looks like I'll have to download the ISO and do it myself.

MS growth areas are Azure & Office (currently and future potential) so that's what they want everyone to use.

Microsoft cares about two major things in my opinion.

    1. Making money
    2. Keeping as many customers they can happy.

    No happy customers=no money.

Many times I don't understand or agree with what Microsoft does but I do believe they want happy customers, just like any other company does.
I remember the "good old days" when some companies cared about keeping their customers happy. :)

Keeping customers happy is only an issue if there is real competition (i.e. they can swap to a competitor).
I regularly see posts (on multiple forums) complaining about how awful communication/Internet services are due to regional monopolies in the US.

MS also worries about bad publicity (e.g. social media), which explains a couple of their recent W10 backflips.
These days the most effective way to keep corporations in line is to start a "hate campaign" on Facebook.

I'm sure MS bends over backwards to please Azure subscribers as they can swap to Amazon or Google.
They also probably put some effort into the Gaming division to stop users swapping to Playstation.

There is little incentive to please desktop users as most of them can't or won't swap to Apple or Linux.

I tell ya! The more of this I read, the more and more I'm glad to still be on Windows 8. Hate my version of Windows if you must, but it appears that I have more control of it. Wow!

I hope the guy from WinAero would continue it. He often made skins and stuff for ClassicShell.
