I use a land line and my wife uses a cell when she is out of the house and she gets these calls as well. The Do Not Call Registry is a Joke, if you use AT&T and or Sprint.

I just called The Do Not Call Registry and I have been registered with it since June, 2003 and these idiots want the date and time of every call. It is a Joke, one more useless agency that can be closed.

1. Political Calls do not count.
2. Surveys do not count.

If AT&T in Chicago area blocks these call they should everywhere. This is a Federal Agency and if they did their job I would not be getting these calls. I block the calls with my phone but all they do is change the number. These calls can be from out of the country for all I know. I have all calls blocked that try to hide their Phone Number at the Lec.

Iam prepared to accept my fate once congress approves the disolvement of NN. But then again, they might vote against dismanteling it

And, the problem with the Do Not Call register here is that they allow exemptions for charities, religious groups, politicians (of course) and people doing surveys - which makes the register next to useless, in my opinion. Some of the scammers try to get around the rules by claiming they're doing a survey.

All of our landline calls are screened with the answering machine and most of the scammers, etc. hang up after the answering machine greeting finishes (most are automated diallers, of course). All of our family and friends know they have to 'announce' themselves after the answering machine greeting finishes playing and then we answer.

The really annoying ones are those that leave a recorded message on answering machines, we've even had politicians doing that before elections.

I'm thinking of getting one of those Panasonic cordless phone/answering machine combinations that automatically disconnect the call after one ring if the calling number isn't valid, i.e. "Withheld", "Blocked" or "Out of Area", etc. which usually means a it is a scammer or telemarketer.

That is what I have but if you call that number in the link HG provided Political and survey type calls are not counted.
