Has anyone noticed your phones not ringing as much?

    Note   Note
We use Verizon (Vz) fios for landline and Vz wireless for cell phone service, and have caller ID on both.
I didn't realize until a few days ago that our phones have been quiet, even with using nomorobo we were getting 3 to 5 unsolicited calls a week, but since we saw a notice from Vz early last week about how Vz was going to handle phone spam, our phones have been quiet for days. That's zero, zilch, zip, nada, nothing.

Users and articles have been clamoring for months / years? for the ISP's to do something about the volume of phone spam, but; I wonder if the repeal of net neutrality on the 14th of this month had anything to do with this or not?

In any event I'm liking it.

Never get them and haven't for years. Registered my phone with: National Do Not Call Registry

I've regsitered with the National DO NOT CALL registry as well, several times. Made little to no difference. Still get 10+ calls a week on my home land line.

Not yet in the US perhaps. Problems already exist NZ, AUS and in some parts of Europe though. Netflix is excluded from your cap. Some data is prioritized.

Net neutrality: why are Americans so worried about it being scrapped? | Technology | The Guardian

Big companies (like Netflix) can say they don't give a shit any more. My small (imaginary) company providing the same service is screwed. Netflix bandwidth is excluded from your cap, my company isn't, who you going to go for? Netflix obviously.

Think about it - why do all the big companies (Google, FaceBook, Netflix etc) say Net Neutrality is not needed? Because the ISP would look bad not them.

More to the point when did they say it? When they were small startups or when they were behemoths?

How does any FCC ruling affect NZ, AUS and Europe?

That do not call list is a joke. I block about 5 to 10 calls a day but it is useless as they just change their number. I have caller ID and if I do not know the caller if out of state I do not answer. Strange that none of them will leave a msg.

The Do Not Call also doesn't work for me. With or without Net Neutrality.

Using Spectrum Cable for my phone service does block Robo calls and that helps.

This is a free service for landlines ($2/ mo for cells) that I have used for years. Phone will ring once, then auto hang up if caller is on their blacklist. Catches almost everything, even without a caller id. Sets up in minutes. Try it, I can guarantee it's better than nothing - Stop robocalls and telemarketers with Nomorobo

I've been registered since 2003, I think it said. It hasn't even slowed them down.

Hmm. I'm surprised at so many with the National Do Not Call Registry. I never get calls. I only have a cell. In reading a FAQ page on the FTC site, I see rules have been laxed. Perhaps my State laws come into play.

If I register my number, will ALL unwanted calls stop?

No, the Do Not Call Registry prohibits sales calls. You still may receive political calls, charitable calls, debt collection calls, informational calls, and telephone survey calls.

In addition, companies may still call if you’ve recently done business with the company, or if you’ve given the company written permission to call you. However, if you ask a company not to call you again, it must honor your request. Record the date of your request.
