Geeks, if you want to list all SYS files in Windows\System32 folder, remember that most of them (in fact almost all of them) are in various subfolders. You must include subfolders in DIR command with switch /s to include those in listing:

    dir /s *.sys

This finds 865 SYS files on my laptop. Without subfolder switch DIR command only shows content of current folder.

Alternatively, open File Explorer, browse to Windows\System32 and search for files with extension sys with ext:sys.
Correct. I was going to mention this when I first read Marty's first post, but glad I decide to finish the thread first.

Directly in /sytem32 I have only 6 files, 3 from (presumably) my Logitech devices and 3 win32k. But adding the subdirectory flag I find 782.

@martyfelker, perhaps you're remembering .DLLs instead of .SYS? I find 3500 .DLLs in /system32....

Apparently we are to get a lot more fluent in forthcoming builds. Am I only person on this forum who really does not care, or even particularly like it.

To me, this is like painting an old house to make it look nice for selling, without investing in fixing underlying issues.

I'm not particularly Ga-ga about it either but it's a nice touch and like to see some reaction to mouse-over, just to be sure it's active.

    What I don't get is......

When Windows 10 came out, in all it's bland, white washed glory, everyone wondered where all the attractive illuminated buttons and bars, etc. went!
Argument was: "We're making it so the CPU/Graphics work more efficiently"

Now we're getting more and more of all this 'Fluent Design' and dancing window animations!

    What gives???

For all Microsoft's claims that W10 was light on graphics it has always needed a WDDM 3D driver which W7 never did.

This is only because Windows Vista and 7 included both XDDM and WDDM from which a driver manufacturer could choose which to use. WDDM is a lot faster and has more features than XDDM.

Update: The heavy development of WDDM 2.x between each new releases of Windows 10 also explains why we have a lot of display driver issues with older display adapters. Hardware manufacturers/driver developers simply can't keep up with all the changes.

Bingo. And from what I understand is more efficient allowing video memory to be virtualized which uses less resources to run across more types of devices. This was the whole concept starting with 8/8.1 > Across multiple devices.

So far as the new modern Fluent Design; From what I understand, Windows Aero (aka Aero Glass) was heavy laden on resources to be able to run across all devices. Besides that, MS needed a new design, so in came "Metro" along with Fluent Design to replace Aero.

An eloquent design system for a complex world

Now’s the time for bold, scalable, universal design. This is a transformation. A step into the future of sensory experiences.
    Fluent Design System

We should keep in mind that MS with Windows 10 is still in a transition period until all this change takes root. And as Slice stated that others need to catch up.

Hoping we get a new build today. :)

    That's bollards - LOL
I can't say I have heard people say bullocks as the accentuation is on second syllable and could easily be confused with the less polite term.
