Perhaps the calls for more information were actually heard - this detail is much appreciated.

Agree with Dencal, re Dona's Tweet - it was just a sprinkling of fungal growth enhancer to take the attention away from the lack of real developments going on. I expect more of this sort of diversionary tactics as time goes by.

However, Jason's Community posting contained inconsistencies like:

When:This is a recent issue, appearing within the past week (since approximately December 1st).
    ...and then ...

What happened?A bug has been discovered in the way we sign the files for builds delivered via flighting that which impacts all Insider Preview builds from 17000 through 17046.As such, any attempted installs of builds in this range will fail with the error code noted above.
According to Flight Hub, 17004 appeared in September:

Next Feature Update for Windows 10 (RS4)

Build: Fast: Slow: Server: IoT: ISO: SDK:
    Build 17046 11/22/2017 12/5/2017 12/1/2017
    Build 17040 11/16/2017 11/21/2017
    Build 17035 11/8/2017 11/15/2017 11/15/2017 11/15/2017
    Build 17025 10/25/2017 11/1/2017 11/15/2017 11/1/2017
    Build 17017 10/13/2017
    Build 17004 9/27/2017*
...so is it September or within the past week (since approximately December 1st)?

They are not inconsistent. It is quite possible for things in the latest build to have affected earlier ones, or even that the passage of time has had an effect. The latter seems more likely if it is a digital signing issue.

Next release has the long awaited Timeline which is probably the single biggest development since Files on Demand. I really do not see why you bother with the Insider Programme if you take such a sceptical view of it.

Not sceptical of the programme at all, just cannot swallow some of the pronouncements made by their PR team!

It was your rather (imo) pointless statement about lack of real development that I was talking about.

I read that post from Jason differently.

Something happened last week, maybe a change they made in flighting system that retrospectively affects all 17xxx builds. In my opinion the information given is logical.

This rather sums up a gripe I have with MS's spectacular inability at times to provide information in an easy to understand and unambiguous manner.

They should take lessons in Situational Leadership - see below:-

Situational leadership is a leadership style that has been developed and studied by Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey. Situational leadership refers to when the leader or manager of an organization must adjust his style to fit the development level of the followers he is trying to influence.

In Americanese, we call that "Speaking to their grade level". Not derogatory at all, simply practical at times. And appreciated by the audience.

I believe SL developers were US based anyway. MS only talk in two levels - for total noobs, or for mega brainsized geeks (far beyond even the best gerks in tenforums).

This is made worse with the dumbing down of communications since DS era using all sorts of silly language in tweets - a flight is what a bird or plan does. I want details, not deets etc.
