I've tried upgrading, fresh install, formatting the hard disc, always the same result.
Can’t get past the frozen windows logo to the spinning/circling dots
I just want it to install on my system so I can remain an insider

Without having to upgrade the Motherboard, CPU, Ram, Graphics card and maybe even the rest of it

    And another Product Key

Although I have the option of using either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome....99.5% of my surfing is done using, in my opinion a very reliable O/S in Edge, particularly for myself the advantages of being integrated with Cortana.

Have not got a clue as to why you and the 250 computers you claim at your local school are having issues.

As for quoting feedback to backup your claims this can sometimes be unreliable.....for example even in this forum certain members post about problems they have encountered, which I have not....logic suggests it can only be either conflicting architecture or self inflicted setups.
Issues people are having here are different from what the school has. They educate Programming and System Management among other things and all specifically for the Windows OS. They are also MS Gold parners.

...so the issues they have are def. NOT self inflicted, since they have to maintain a certain level of knowledge every year in order to maintain their MS partner status.

More knowledge = speculation = experimentation = f**k ups = finding out faults = gaining more knowledge....ad infinitum....

I think Insiders are putting a lot of pressure on the devs and testers -- been there, done that, even wore the panties...in corporate...hey, it's not fun.

Having said that-- they seem to be doing OK... just saying (WAAS is about hustle... LOL)
    What colour were they?

Perhaps there is a dispute amongst the pros here because of schools of thought. The same in any industry. Certainly in the one I was in. Although we basically build the same as the Romans did, today we have much different methodology. Perhaps “pre-alpha” wasn’t taught 45 years ago or some schools today simply don’t use the term.

e.g. The way a door swings is important, yet there is no standardized definition for door swings. Left swing vs right swing. One must follow the definition of the manufacturer or the supplier. You’d think after all these centuries of building we would have a standardized definition, but nooo. We humans have to complicate the hey out of it.

In doing some research, I found these. Here’s a certification site that doesn’t mention pre-alpha, but rather:

    1. Unit testing
    2. Component testing
    3. Integration testing
    4. Component integration testing
    5. System integration testing
    6. System testing
    7. Acceptance testing

Are all those to be considered pre-alpha? Then they list Alpha and Beta testing: What are Software Testing Levels?

This Wikipedia article does indeed mention pre-alpha: Software release life cycle - Wikipedia

Here looks to be a serious discussion on the topic: Can we discuss the term ? : gamedev

Here’s a company in the business of validation: Alpha vs. Beta Testing

I’ll let you pros duke it out, but at this point it seems to me that there is no standardized definition. Then, of course, MS has their definition of testing, whatever that is.

Those are familiar terms to me in the testing cycle. Until software firms started to allow pre-release software into the wild I had never heard the terms alpha and beta used to define a program's development state.
