Wow, Keith, I'd be most interested in seeing the particulars on that one!
No great mystery Wynona. HP has a support assistant that is uses to keep it's own software and drivers up to date. It just came as an update through that. It needed a reboot after but that was all. Don't know how it works but I checked with the test program afterwards and it said it was patched.

And now, I'm totally confused! From the opening paragraph in the ZDNet article:

    ZDNet said:
Thanks to an investigation by third-party researchers into Intel's hidden firmware in certain chips, Intel decided to audit its firmware and on Monday confirmed it had found eight severe bugs that affect millions of computers and servers.
From Keith's post above, I'm no longer thinking I understand what HP did! So, this

Ah, so I'm probably wrong in thinking it's firmware? Software instead?
    question is withdrawn.

I am totally confused and bow out of something I thought I partially understood.

Maybe the installer just prepared to flash the bios and the reboot did the job. I'm confused too.

    Hi,

It flashes the MEI/AMT ROM not the bios unless the OEM needs to update that as well.
The updater you run from within Windows just prepares the environment for that, restarts the machine and starts running the update(s) flashe(s) asking you not to cut off power to the machine.
When all is done it then reboots and that's it.

    Cheers,

Any idea why this tool Intel-SA-00086 Detection Tool can't even load on my machine? GUI version does not even load and the command one just crash I already tried running as a admin so no ideas left since I tried the last one when I saw in this forum about another vulnerability and it worked fine.

So this does not apply to me Processor?

Did you "run as administrator"? It wouldn't work for me until I ran it as admin . . . Lenovo forgot to tell me that part.

Although the tool should run it does not apply to your CPU. You have nothing to worry about but you may want to check if your system is healthy OS wise.

    Cheers,
"The bugs affect systems using Intel's 6th, 7th, and 8th Generation Core CPUs" Mine is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz why it does not apply? isn't it 7th generation? Sorry for the stupid question :)

Well Win10 integrity report is all green and I have no problems aside from this tool hating my PC :)

I think it's a problem with non english system since mine is in Portuguese

    Hi,

    isn't it 7th generation?
Nope, it's a fourth generation CPU and still a very well performing one too. I used to run the K version of yours and still regret selling it.

I think it's a problem with non english system since mine is in Portuguese
Possibly. But you have nothing to worry about anyhow. These security flaws are real but the chance of being hacked this way is really one in a billion for private users.
