    I can't find any reason why upgrade, the Modern Setup Host process writes to disk so slowly.

    No, an Asus laptop. Weird thing is until a month and a half ago I was using another Asus laptop until it just died, this one is almost similar, refurbished directly from Asus with warranty. Two Asus / Intel / NVidia) laptops, both working just fine (until the first one died ), both taking from four and a half hours to 7 hours to upgrade (three and a half to over 5 hours to "Restart now", then about 90 minutes to restart and to get to upgraded desktop).

    Microsoft stopped delivering feature / build upgrades as ESD and switched to UUP. I never had any issues with ESD upgrades, it was an hour to hour and a half including the restart phase.

    Does not look good, I guess I will not break record tonight as I thought earlier:

    Attachment 164195
    Wasn't suggesting an upgrade. Just checking what is slowing down writing to disk. But then, you are a geek more than enough, to do whatever is possible with hardware you have...

    That times are not fun to deal with.

    I've noticed at about 60% into installation phase Modern Setup Host kicks in and eats up as much as 70% of an 8 core AMD CPU. Must be processing a lot of data. Then around 70% into it drops to around 13/15% for awhile. Don't know how may threads or cores it's using, though.

    Concerning this Known Issue:

    Insiders with certain third party antiviruses and OneDrive Files on Demand enabled may see an error citing “OneDrive cannot connect to Windows”.

    @Kari
    I know we both had this problem, and I have found the alleged culprit. I tested it this morning on two different 17035 Insider OS's prior to the release of 17040. It is a conflict between OneDrive FOD and Macrium. I had done a clean install last Monday of 17035, and all was fine. Until I installed Macrium with both Image Guardian and CBT. Then FOD promptly broke. I uninstalled Macrium completely, all 4 options on the uninstall screen, everything. Rebooted and reinstalled Macrium without Image Guardian and without CBT. Set the OneDrive to the proper setting to save space, and all worked perfectly! Rebooted and all held, still worked perfectly. I just did 17040 on top of 17035, and all held, all still works perfectly.

    There is a conflict, and I'm not sure where to point the finger. I'm suspecting the Image Guardian service, not MR's fault, just something changed maybe in the Windows permissions/security that made it get ill.

    Again, if you totally uninstall Macrium and reinstall without those 2 options, it will work.

    Copy and save your backup definitions first, they will get deleted. Usually in Reflect folder under your User\Documents. Copy them back after MR reinstall.

    Thanks for sharing that, Dick! I will most definitely test it.

    I'm not bragging, but just saying, as usual my VM updated without a hitch, and being I have a checkpoint for the last version(I always make one before an upgrade, just like creating an image on the host, before I upgrade it) I am now in the process of cleaning out the windows.old and other upgrade cruft.

    Oops. Forgot I had to make the ISO.

    Anywho, half hour to restart is pretty good time here.

    Totally weird thing. I only noticed this because I went to My PC to get to my UPPtoISO drive. This is at Restart point where I make my ISO. This partition, the system partition 1 UEFI stuff, had been assign a drive letter! I didn't touch it, just went ahead and made my ISO and proceeded with the Restart. All went fine and up to 17040 Desktop. Checked My PC again and it was gone! Mega confused!!
