My 2008 Compaq Presario desktop upgraded without incident, running fine. Pretty much plain vanilla hardware...

Started out with Vista, upgraded to 7, then 8, then 8.1, and here we are at the latest upgrade of 10. (I decided to skip Windows 9 [emoji14] )

My update went smoothly. My only problem is that many of the installed apps have disappered from the start menu. I did the sfc & dism. No problems found. I ran the apps troubleshooter and it says all is well. All of the apps appear in the All Settings - Apps. I can actually access all of the apps by typing in an app in Cortana and then click on the apps logo at the top & then Store opens. When the store app is open it does not appear on the task bar. From there it shows my selected app is already installed and I can launch it from there. Whatever app that I Iaunch from there, opens but does not appear on the task bar. Whew.

I then used file explorer to try to open Programs - windowsapp. Aha! I am denied access when I try to change folder permissions, I get this: This access control entry is corrupt. Delete and create a new one
It looks to me I need delete the control accesss entry. But how? Where do the control access entries live and how do I delete it?

When I do open the store, I am already logged in with my MS account - the same with any of my apps I launch from there. I can always reload my backup I made before I did the Fall CU, and redo the CU, but since everything else is working great and I can still access all of my apps, I am in no hurry. Guess I like a challenge.

Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks.!

    San Martino,

See if one or more of these have an impact on the start menu:

    1) open administrative powershell and copy and paste this command to re-register the start menu:

    Get-appxpackage -all *shellexperience* -packagetype bundle |% {add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($_.installlocation + “\appxmetadata\appxbundlemanifest.xml”)}

    reboot > check start menu

    2) Run through this start menu troubleshooter:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...t-menu-cortana

    3) Open administrative command prompt and type
    1) net user test /add
    2) shutdown /r
    3) sign on with the new user named test and evaluate the start menu

Alright it seems like windows 10 keeps failing to install the fall update. I'm getting this. I've tried a regular restart and I've tried a shutdown & restarting, no luck.

There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x8024a105)

The only thing I can think of with my unsuccessful update is that it rolled back, but I didn't see it. Must've been quick. Anywho, ran the MCT and did it right from the desktop. It's really nothing but WU in disguise using UUP. It goes through the same processes.

So all 3 of my machines are updated. :)

Has anybody noticed this error in the Reliability Monitor since updating to FCU? I just noticed that three of these have occurred since the update but I haven't noticed any problems at all when using Edge. One odd thing about this error is that it shows an Application Version of 16299.15 but I am running 16299.19, not sure if that means anything though. I've never seen this before, any ideas on what would cause them?

Now it finally upgraded. I had to use the Windows 10 Update Assistant to make it quit failing the upgrade.

    I have a question
now I'm in the channel "INSIDER PREVIEW BUILDS (I have 16299.19) ... When I leave the INSIDERS completely, and I choose to go back to the official version ... will install from the beginning ??? Will it be time consuming ???
or, since the same version will be done soon ??? Thanks in advance

I haven't seen this since the update but I have seen that reported before. It seems to be an intermittent thing and perhaps more prevalent in the aftermath of any cumulative updates (in my historical experiences). Like on your system it's not had an effect on edge and using it so I would be inclined to ignore it. My suspicion is it'll settle down over time
