Our goal is to deliver the highest quality, delightful and trusted experience to Windows customers. Windows collects data so that we can be responsive to your needs and interests. We are committed to working with you and other interested voices to evolve the Windows privacy experience to deliver on our Privacy Principles and give you confidence and trust in our products and services. This is a journey and these dialogs will shape our future.

Today, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or DPA) released its report on the compliance of Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro with Dutch data protection law. In the report, the DPA says it believes Microsoft should provide more information to customers about the data collected and how it is used to help make more informed choices.
I want our customers to know that it is a priority for us that Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro are clearly compliant under Dutch law.

Since launching Windows 10, we’ve been on a journey listening to feedback from customers and collaborating with regulators around the world. As a result, we’ve made improvements to ensure all versions of Windows 10 meet our customers’ privacy needs and expectations. For example, we’ve worked with Swiss and French data protection authorities to incorporate their guidance, subsequently improving the privacy controls in Windows 10 Home and Pro and earning their positive assessments of the changes.

This year we have released a new privacy dashboard and several new privacy features to provide clear choices to our customers and easy-to-use tools in Windows 10. Next week, we have even more privacy improvements coming in the Fall Creators Update.

We welcome the opportunity to continue to work with the Dutch DPA on their comments related to Windows 10 Home and Pro, and we will continue to cooperate with the DPA to find appropriate solutions.

We have also shared specific concerns with the Dutch DPA about the accuracy of some of its findings and conclusions. A summary of the points in the DPA’s announcement, which we believe do not accurately reflect the data protection compliance of Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro under Dutch law, can be found here.

We are committed to continuing to improve and build upon the innovations in Windows 10. In listening and responding to feedback from customers and regulators, we continue to make each update better than the last. This continuous journey helps us ensure Windows 10 is the most reliable, high performing, trusted and secure version of Windows ever.

But... but... but that was already available in Creators Update!!! even when upgrading or clean installing!

No offense, but people there misses reading important stuff...

The other thing about a web seccion where you can monitor your activity is a great deal, BTW, just like Google did, I guess now people will feel more comfortable with that.

The DPA finds the current description about what data Windows collects, how it collects them and how it stores them not clear enough. They want Microsoft to specifically mention what it collects and how it uses the collected information. They don't want Microsoft to say 'we collect app usage, phone information, etc.', they want Microsoft to say 'we collect information about the time you spend on apps, what you do in it, who you contact, who your contacts are for predictability, etc. and store them in xxx way via xxx encryption'.
