I think it will remain as an alternative, and will separate from Fast Ring again in lat January ahead of release of 1803 late March / early April.
Yes. Technically we're on the same build 17017.1000 and rs_4, but choosing content in Settings remains the same. Here are mine that I never changed. The first was rs_3 (non-skippy) and the second is rs_4 (skippy). They both are now rs_4, yes? If so, will skippy eventually change to rs_5 and the other remain rs_4?

Still don't understand the statement of reverting with the skippy unless it has to do with only one ring choice of being fast. It's been there since they closed skippy.

Upgrading the last two VMs, a Gen 1 and a Gen2 to 17017.1000. Just in time for what I hope will be the release of the next rs4 build. Maybe 17020.1 I've pretty much lucked out with 17017 but must confess a bit of survivor guilt.

The only thing I can make of it is that it reverts to other possible rings, for that category choice is greyed out.

    What?

Pigpenz... surprised someone didn't tell you what beta testing / Windows Insider program is. As you clearly have not a faintest clue what it is, let me explain it to you. Maybe you can learn something new.

It means testing and reporting. When bugs found or the software / OS you are testing becomes unusable, you'll report all bugs and errors you've found. In my case I reported everything that happened, starting from clicking this notification every time after Windows had rebooted after every GSOD and leaving feedback using the official Feedback Hub:

    Attachment 158929

I also used official Windows Insider social media channels to report my issues, this chain of tweets is a good example: Kari on Twitter:

In addition, as a member of Ten Forums, the best available source of Windows 10 Insider information and support on the whole Interwebs, I reported about my issues in this thread which is dedicated to build 17017 and its issues, posting about everything that happened.

You seem to think that testing Windows Insider builds means that you install them and then if any issues you just remain silent and wait for the next build. For me, and for most of our members and fellow Insiders it means testing and reporting.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you still don't understand this about testing Insider builds.

It really is simple - everybody gets reverted to Fast Ring as Skippy is now closed. The message is a hangover from when there were two sub branches.

For clarity, Skippy no longer exists, only the Fast Ring - end of story.

Setting skippy settings has NO effect any more until maybe a few months down the line when early development of RS5 is underway.

While I totally agree I wonder if those of us still on Skippy will be directed to change our settings or just stay on Skippy and catch RS5?

We have months before we need to worry. I am not going to bother next time as Skippy was basically a waste of time really anyway.

It is a bit surprising that MS does not itself make the changes to the registry to make "Skippy go away". Guess they are nostaglic for useless code.

So where is the non-Skippy Fast ring release. Bet they are still laboring, not over the code, but the PC way to approach talking about the problems with 17017, which remember, started when it was released to the update servers without a bit of "required code" or some such

I have now wiped my drive clean, reformatted it, removed partitions windows used and attempted to install from iso the 17017.1000 and upon initial install startup, I am greeted with a BSOD with message that page fault error ref volsnap.sys. Nothing is on the disk. So, definitely a problem with this buildís own copy of volsnap.sys. I used the iso made from one of my computers which installed 17017. Go figure.
as @Kari said, I just canít stop till Iím successful or totally stumped.
