yes, I did delete old file. And as soon as I plug in my usb drives, the green screen appears. I am restoring my backup made from before I started this update and turn off my insider for a while on this computer. Unplugging my other ssdís Made no difference. Plugging them back in made no difference. But something about my usbís Makes a difference. I read something similar on MS help page. But they were saying removing usb drives gets rid of volsnap issue during install, which it did; however plugging back usb makes for green screen.
p.s. I do appreciate your help and other member help. Thatís what the forum is forónot Fighting.
Have you tried different USB drives in different slots on the machine - just a thought.
    Amen to the bold text.

anyway having read all this I disconnected my WD usb drives and did the restart and got the 17017 build after ten tries.
connected my usb drives back up and immediately got the GSOD with the volsnap.sys error again......disconnected the drives and it started up fine....dont know if this is a consequence of the release of fall creators update as it was 9am PST

I have a partial solve for the situation, but not complete. I have been able to install 17017. Finally. However, I had removed my two external USB backup drives. After installing the build, I tried to plug in my USB drives again. Low, and behold, the system crashed, blue screen and green screen both referencing the pagefault in non-paged area ref. volsnap.sys ----- so. And, this is a triple boot system and always has been with three different drives, one with Win 8.1 Pro, one with CU 10, and one with Insider. Never, never had a problem with this setup. And have had the drives plugged in all along. Now when I plug drives back in, the green screen rears its ugly head and I cannot get an option to go to my menu to select one of the other systems on this computer. HELPPPPPPPP
I have also this problem, with my Toshiba DTB310 external drive. Other two external drives are working well with 17017.

I think a lot of us have that problem and it has been discussed on ms website, too. Many different solutions offered but none yet work for me.

I've just noticed 2 directories $WINDOWS.~BT and $Windows.~WS in my 17017.1000 Build. I don't remember them being there but they are dated the 16th. I clean installed 16296 and let it upgrade to 17017.1000. Directories are probably from that upgrade.

Were you successful? Or had you had a difficult problem before with volsnap.sys?
