    It goes deeper than that,

    It's all about perpetual sales;

    sell more modern devices, sell more apps, sell more data, sell more bandwidth, sell more e-media, sell more e-goods and e-services.

    Gone are the days when you purchased a Windows and Office DVD and you were set for life!!!
    (MS, and others, don't make no money that way!)

    Maybe we need to write a Windows 10 Clone that would run on a 486 with 8MB RAM and boot up in a few seconds on that hardware. All written in pure Assembler of course for maximum performance optimizations.
    That feels tricky to me. I just want them to support versions longer like, for instance Windows 8.1 where you knew how long the machine would be supported from the start.

    With Windows 10 the support period is largely based on luck!
    It comes down to how long your drivers will be supported or whether W10 will change to break them.

    Doubt it's On-Demand related. This is on CU 15063. I had Event Log errors up the wazoo, timing out connecting to some obscure server. Been like that for a while...months on CU. I just finally went into Autoruns and told it to shut-up!
    My guess was based on information available (third party sites, nothing from Microsoft), which told me that it is only available since version 1703 (screenshot from http://batcmd.com/windows/10/services/cldflt/):

    Apparently this information is wrong.

    Nope. I'm talking about IBM mainframe which I suppose was a precursor to the x86 architecture and was register based.
    Are you talking about the 801?

    Maybe I'm confused, but isn't CU 1703? Or I'm not understanding your question. Sorry.Click image for larger version.

    It's called Linux.
    Yes, and comes in many "flavors" - one of which will suit your tastes!

    That's interesting CldFlt.sys doesn't seem to be running on my system although it is in the drivers folder.

    I started out back in the late 70's coding 6502 and Z-80 assembler. I once had a dream in 6502 AL, but I suppose you might call it more of a nightmare ;-)
