    Exactly.

I still have most of a year left to install Windows 7 Ultimate on one of my laptops and upgrade to Windows 10, but I thought I'd just see if it's worth the effort first. Since I was told I was "out of line", I just backed out and won't worry about it anyway.

There seem to be several freebies out in the wild anyway, so why bother.

Damn, I use Media Center all the time m- For a few things. But it's true, with apps like VLC and MPC-HC which were a lot more friendly for various codecs, Media Centre could not really compete with that. But they should have tried. instead of reducing each each OS since XP. Under XP it did all kinds of things including act as a Cable receiver.

How much they charging for this thing anyway, another 99 bucks? That's mainly what killed it off in 8.1.

And that is the issue with the DVD App..
Any attempt to rewrite windows removes the DVD App..

Kind of a pain to install windows 7 /8 /8.1 with media center - then upgrade that to windows 10
Just to get back something you already paid for.. And you have to do it every time..

Yeah there are many free player apps, But this one I / we already paid for..
So why the DVD App is not tied in the same somewhat manner as the activation or product ID..
    Makes No sense,,

You reset windows 10 or clean install windows 10 - you must purchase DVD app through store..
Or you just work-around the issue..
    Your welcome..

No DVD player app on my relative's computer yet. I just updated it, though.

I don't think she's ever watched a DVD on it, so I am not terribly worried for now. Just another data point...

Have to agree with you there, it should either show up as a purchased App in the Store under your account. Or be tied to the Product ID/hardware ID of the PC it was qualified for. You shouldn't lose it because you di a clean install latter on down the road.
