I don't know what my system is doing every now and then on 16299.xxx. But it does not work that reliably sometimes.
Ever since 16299.0 and after a clean reboot, very often, everything regarding Store Apps, action center and Start Menu, does not respond at all. All win32 apps run smoothly, I can right click the desktop, taskbar, tray and Start...and I get working context menus. I can even use the WIN+R shortcut to show and run commands from there.
Something is still way off in version 1709 and I am not surprised so many get GSOD even after/during a clean install. This version works really well when it works, but very often it hangs right after login. I had same issues with the 2 latest Cumulative updates for 1703 too on both my laptops.

There must be some bad code recently introduced somewhere that breaks everything.

UPDATE: After multiple reboots, now my systems on both laptops seems to run smoothly again right from login. No issues. Weird...!?!
I have very similar issues, start fail, cortana fails. I reregistered those and several dlls. fingers crossed. lol there is definitely some bugs in here. i have been able to kill them but, getting to be a pain in the a..I am thinking a lot of this is vendors not prepared for this fall update thing. IMO.

This release of FCU seems to be different from CU, I remember that a few days before the release of CU, the MCT was already available (I mean, without having to do any "trick" to make it work) just like the Update Assistant, I also remember that some people reported that Creators Update files were being downloaded to their PCs in the background a few days before the release, this time I can not find those reports anywhere.

You're definitely right about that. This is a much different roll-out.

Well, this is odd. I have been having issues with Sleep not working. I clean install 16299.15 and it temporarily worked, then crapped out again. Now I have upgraded to 16299.19 it is working again now - no consistency at all!

No, it's a normal roll-out - it was the Creator Update that was 'much different' from all the others.

Well, this is odd. I have been having issues with Sleep not working. I clean install 16299.15 and it temporarily worked, then crapped out again. Now I have upgraded to 16299.19 it is working again now - no consistency at all!
HHGTTG 42 is the answer to everything. Sorry couldn’t resist say that

...I also remember that some people reported that Creators Update files were being downloaded to their PCs in the background a few days before the release, this time I can not find those reports anywhere.
I had several GB of downloads in my Software Distribution/Downloads that showed up yesterday when i tried to install the Fall update - tried twice with no luck - got BSOD both times with the same error 'Reference By Pointer'
