Just how many Insiders are going to be caught out by this, as you will not be able to leave the Programme immediately, once the new build comes out?

I think it is a bad decision to merge one week before CU goes live.
It's a bad idea to do anything on a Patch Tuesday.

I thought that CU was live for months and now we are waiting for FU. Man, where have I been.

Nothing is going to be merged just yet. That announcement was just a warning, so people have time to adjust their insider settings.

We already know that 16299.15 is the RTM build, so now it is a good time to decide if you want to stay on this build and get only GA security and BUG patches, be in the release preview for some prerelease patches and Store Apps or continue onward to RS4 prereleases.

If you want to wait a bit longer for RS4 prereleases, just select Slow Ring, but if interested in fast paced upgrades coming in then select Fast Ring or just stay on Skip Ahead, which will be the same as Fast Ring in it's core except for also having latest Store Apps.

I did put my main insider machine on Release Preview ( FCU ) and will keep my other machine ( CU ) on Release Preview as usual. In Hyper-V I will be on both Fast Ring and Skip Ahead.

I know all that, but my point was I suspect a lot will get caught out - not everybody follows twitter or web forums etc.

It seems to me waiting at least until 17th would not be a bad idea, as that is when may Insiders may NATURALLY choose to change their status. Even going on Slow Ring will only defer change. It would not affect me as I always keep regular image backups, but unfortunately not all people do (dumb if an Insider).

Well I was a sixties teen, and you know what they say, if you remember the sixties, you were not there.

Great point. I myself hitch hiked around the US in the 60s, lived in a teepee in the forest and generally tried many different "lifestyles" in the 60s. Man, it was a beautiful time to be a human.
