    eg. Cortana...
Aha! Thanks. I don't use so I'll see about disabling Cortana, thanks.

Edit: Nope, I disabled Cortana via Group Policy Editor and Regedit and ctfmon is still starting at boot.

    Greetings,

I made a DVD of 16299.15 from an ESD file. I am not in the Insider's program (running 15063.632 which is running great BTW)

My question is, can i use the DVD to upgrade the OS without being in the Insider's program or having to opt-in then opt-out after up to 16299.15?

I do not want to clean install.

    TIA,

    Ray
So far as I know, 16299.15 is not officially RTM, so don't think it will work. You would have to be a registered Insider for it to activate. But you could try for us.

Worse comes to shove you will not have any Personalization.

I guess i'll take Josey's suggestion & wait till the 17th (or wait even later, what with considering all the horror stories i'm hearing of people's systems getting hosed in some form or another doing the update via WU!)

You don't even need the DVD, just open the ISO and run the "setup", accept the terms and conditions and let everything be prepared for the update, in the end you will see a screen like this.

Click on "install", once the installation is complete you will see that you are not in the insider program, just go to Settings-Update and Security-Windows Insider Program, you will notice that it says "Get started", you can also search this path in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability.

Thanks 'LeoPeva64' - that's exactly what i was looking for - someone who has actually tried it.

So, i'm assuming you were not on the Insider program when you upgraded via setup in .iso?

Did you disable AV, Anti-Spyware, etc. programs before upgrading?

    TIA

No, I did not disable anything at all and I was not in the insider program in that PC when I ran the setup but I remind you that each PC is different, I added an image to my previous comment showing the difference in the registry between the build insider and the one I updated with the ISO.

If you're speaking of Insiders, then it's preview software. It's warned and at times to be expected.

If you're talking upgrading from one OS to the other, or now with 10 from one major upgrade to the other, well all's I'll say is hiccups on the system or the crap people install will most times drag along with it. I'm sure you know that a clean install is best.
