Best explanation I've heard yet. Brilliant actually. This runs along MS's business plan for one familiar OS to run across all devices and at the same time saving users a lot of downloaded data. No one else on the planet is accomplishing this.
Eventually as phones get more powerful with miniaturization they will combine mobile into the family. That'll take awhile, though. Then you can bet Windows phones will become more saleable.
You are missing the point - uup does download what it needs but there is someting highly inefficient in the installation phase. Even when I had a fairly slow broadband, the time to download install.esd was just over an hour, which is a small portion of the five hours in a vm.
What is the point of halving download times if you double the rest of it? The only people who benefit are those on limited download plans. So, it would not be difficult to ask which way would you like to do it, e.g. recommending uup for slow/limited plans
Nope, I don't recommend the UUP system at all, I am one of those who want the return of the old system of downloads and installations, in fact, in the times when the downloads lasted half (three months ago) I asked Jason Howard directly when they went to make a survey among the insiders about that, because even with the download time reduced by half, the installation times were excessively long.
The search which takes place looking for missing files when updating UUP first takes place accounts for minimal time when compared with the total time taken to finish the installation.
Once files are downloaded next comes preparing files for location... then installing files....then updates.....preparing updates....installing updates....etc etc.
Far better IMO to just install the whole package in one go....the download would take longer, the installation being much faster.
Well, we sit in our fat easy chairs enjoying band width, while others in less fortunate countries struggle to even get a connection, let alone afford a data plan. A computerized device is the best teaching tool since the printing-press-printed books. The greatest creating tool as well.
So for now we have to wait a little longer for an OS to update while we sit in our fat easy chairs. What's the big deal?
MS is no slouch of a company. Never has been. They are developing UUP for a very good reason.
Not wasting my time. I've enjoyed my Lumia from the day I purchased it almost 4 years ago. Runs right along with my other devices. It has just reached it's limit on OS build update. What is iPhone or an Android time span on that?
