In one form or the other, yes. Insider after FCU will be 17 or 18 or 99 or something. Whatever the numbering system, there will be an Insider Program....have not heard/seen/read anything that says or hints it will be discontinued. May even shift a bit more toward the Bus$ne$$ side. They don't just have lab rats, they have bean counters, too.
Come on guys and gals! What did you really expect from Skippy? Most of you have been in the Fast Ring since the Insider Program started and you should all know that the first builds of next Windows Release, progress really slow and most likely has NO new apps and gadgets to play with. It was completely expected that Skippy would be also slow and even slower than Fast Ring.
We are now in the situation where Fast Ring and Skippy will pretty soon merge together and continue as one. And YES @martyfelker we will be seeing 17xxx builds in the future.
The point is MS marketed Skippy as being an opportunity to get a early preview of RS4, and even restricted numbers to make it sound exciting and exclusive. The reality was totally different - it has been boring.
The only thing of some note was photos+story remix - which is still not in Fast Ring and supposed to be in 1709.
This seems very odd to me - they have flagshipped remix for months, and have yet to get bulk of Insiders to test it - a bit late in day!
Well, for a bit I had the thrill of being in the Skippy lane. A new lane next to the fast lane.
MS planning, development, and coders are in teams. Never get behind the 8 ball first when planning a business strategy. Investors look at the future of a company to forecast profit for their returns, especially in the fast-moving tech industry. Therefore, MS created Skippy or rs_4 to start developing the future of Windows with a team way before rs_3 was finished. They've always done this. Now that rs_3 is RTM (or close enough) they will move coders over to rs_4.
Not sure with build numbers, but the next version will most likely be 18xx for the year 2018. Spring update?
