I got it installed but the DVD Drive is missing again but everything else seems to be OK. I doubt that there will be more skippy builds untill after the 17th, so I will probably just image this and wait.

Josey, just IMO, there won't be a Skippy after the 17th. At least not this year. Maybe the 17th of Spring '18 something.

The question of whether or not there will be another Skippy would seem to be related to whether the RTM on the 17th will be a 16k or 17k build number IMHO. In any case, this is the state of play of the Insider Program today 10/2 1:25 Eastern

What? that is known for a long time, the builds that start with 17xx are "prerelease" builds of RS4, there is absolutely no possibility that one of those builds is RTM of RS3, in fact, in my opinion, it is already known that "RTM" for RS3 will be build 16299.xx, the only thing missing to know is the delta number.

Interestingly enough, 17004 on my nearly ancient machine and my laptop are going well, whereas the last build was utter chaos on my desktop.

There is no possibility that the RTM on 17th is a 17k build number, I repeat, builds starting with 17xx are "prerelease" builds of RS4 and that has been known for a long time, it has also been known for some time that the RTM on 17th will be a 16k build number.
