Thanks again for all your help on this, Slice. :)

To let everyone know, Slice's code didn't delete the .old(1) folder, but it after running the command it did allow me to delete it in FE, so problem solved. :)

And, as far as I know, I have a right to express my opinion. In the post you quoted I asked why should I use third party tools. Your post does in no way answer that question.

    Kari
Yes you do as do I and everyone else. My post was not meant to answer the question. I was just stating the facts.

I have never had a problem deleting windows.old , in RS3 one does not have to worry about it. Mine was removed using Settings.

The thing is windows.old is supposed to be deleted by running Disk Cleanup and there have only been a handful of times that it has failed - none recently that I recall. There was a problem several months ago with it failing to delete the directory completely I seem to remember.

    This build 10.0.17014.1000 (rs_prerelease.171005-1657

compiled last Thursday is stronger evidence to my mind that 17015 compiled Friday will be the last Skippy released this cycle. Still, don't know what the numbering scheme will be after the 17th. Logically it should be the same numbering as Skippy but Microsoft "Bob" doesn't always play by my rules of logic (why should they after all

Never had a problem either using any method either. Advanced disk cleanup (Tools or command line), FE, or Storage Sense. For some reason while setting up the old Acer it stacked 2 of them [.old and .old(1)] up after clean installing 15063 > Set it to Insider fast > Let it upgrade to 16299.0 > Then within a few days it updated to 16299.15. I know I could've clean install 16299.0, but I wanted to see how things would go with that route.
