The update has started on a Hyper-V VM with build 16296. While it almost certainly will succeed I don't know whether it means much since 16299.2 is already in buildfeed. So presumably Microsoft found some issue with 16299.0 of which we may only guess.

I sure wish that I could know for sure that Skippy is dead and I wish Dona would share this information with those few who are stilling running it.

This is one of the beauties of fierce broadband competition in UK (we can get any provider anywhere in UK as they all use the same infrastructure).

If an ISP will not replace router, you just threaten to go to another supplier and a new router is on its way in nanoseconds.

Problem with US (and I assume Oz is the same) is the country is so large you do not have a single infrastructure, so you are more at the mercy of the ISPs.
Not strictly true...Virgin have their own fibre optics network.

I'm saving some of your comments here and in the thread about build 16362 to quote them at the right time...

Yeah, the failed download could be due to a flakey modem. It occasionally loses access, usually just a few minutes, and then connects again. A reset of the modem is sometimes needed. ISP won't replace, as when they check it is working.
Just purchase your own modem that is known to be good and stable, and one where you can update the software and firmware when it suits your schedule best. All those ISP modems you get for free are horrible. Including the ones I have got for free.

I currently have a modem, I purchased, with a MIPS CPU, that one is total crap too. I was in a hurry and it was the only one available at that time. Now my ISP manages the updates, the firmware is filled with bugs, the webUI is too heavy and the CPU has poor cooling, so it easily overheats, crashes, or simply just refuse to do what I want it to do. Will replace it with something that actually works, once I have the time and energy to look for something better.

I am on 381.94 and it's working great on my GT-540M. ....well I don't know if it is that great, since I have not done any deeper tests on it, but at least the driver can start and my system does not crash. :)

If you're using Windows defender, disable it while making ISO (don't forget to enable it after). You'll save half the time needed for ISO (or even more)

Really, I have never done that. But since it only takes about 5 minutes to make the ISO it really doesn't make any difference.

Not sure what you mean but in fact the Hypler-V VM did upgrade to 16299.0. 21.5 GB windows.old with no non-MS programs or indeed any extra MS features.
