Can install 16299 now, and upgrade to the RTM build when that's out and then withdraw from the insider thing on my main PC? Or would you recommend waiting outright for RTM (super difficult with new Threadripper hardware taunting me to use it)? I have to assume RTM will be around in the coming week anyway if my memory serves me right from past experience.

IF you have an iso for 16299, you can, and you can select option to leave Insider build at next opportunity.

Latest Slow Ring iso is 16278.

Remember that I will be there for you in case you want to discuss about reasons behind this utterly weird behaviour. Speaking from personal experience, I can tell you that regular consumption of whisky can cure the DCS (Disturbing Color Syndrome). May I suggest a shot or thirteen and restoring some not so weird color scheme?

Kari, two of the most important parts on my system are from MSI(mainboard & video card), red & black are their colors.

I take this part of your comment to reflect on something, it would not be possible that the build 16299 is the so-called RTM? maybe they will remove the watermark and the expiration date with a cumulative update, I know that has not happened before but hey, there is always a first time for everything, after all, if I remember correctly, the build that was released on April 11 was 15063.2 , I may be totally wrong and next week Microsoft will release build 16300 or higher and that is the RTM, but at this time and for several factors I think it is quite possible that this is the final build.

Microsoft doesn't want it called RTM any more(hello OCD), even GA(general availability) is incorrect, because some users will have to wait weeks, months, or because of their hardware, never, to get it.

Getting the final release on July 29th

Windows Insiders running the Windows 10 Insider Preview (Home and Pro editions) with their registered MSA connected to their PC will receive the final release build of Windows 10 starting on July 29th. This will come as just another flight. I’ve gotten a lot of questions from Windows Insiders about how this will work if they clean installed from ISO. As long as you are running an Insider Preview build and connected with the MSA you used to register, you will receive the Windows 10 final release build. Once you have successfully installed this build, you will also be able to clean install on that PC from final media if you want to start over fresh. It’s important to note that only people running Genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10 as part of the free upgrade offer.*

If you are running the Enterprise edition of the Windows 10 Insider Preview, to upgrade to the final release of Windows 10 Enterprise you will need to download and activate it from Volume Licensing Service Center. As a reminder, the Enterprise edition of the Windows 10 Insider Preview is not eligible for the free upgrade offer and can be upgraded to the final release of Windows 10 through an active Software Assurance agreement.
