After a brand new install with an ISO the same issue exists. I wasted my time again trying to fix something that only the people at MS can fix. I am done even trying to fix this. I will image this and go back to a build where I can used my DVD!
The X on the drive shown below is NOT a removable drive. it is a Fix DVD Drive!
Off to the hub..
Well, I got the old Acer ready to dual boot with a fast ring Insider (non-skippy). Forgot how slow this thing is with the duo Pentium D 3GHz and 2GB of RAM. The cumulative and driver updates took longer than the clean install. I'm running out of energy for tonight, but I'll start the clean install on D and head for bed. Let it do it's thing.

I just had my very first BSOD in my Skippy while typing this. Windows Shell Experience Host Stopped working. Reboot and recovered ok.
Anywho, I know, but unfortunately I already maxed it. It came with 1GB. It's from Vista days. It'll be a teener soon. Still putts along, though. :)
Ancient BIOS. I shove a stick in the USB to boot from to install and it sits there for 5 minutes with the Win logo and no spinning dots. Then it takes off. I don't remember that with previous OSs.
Well, i had to find a 16296 image and install it on usb, then ran the installer from usb and did an upgrade install, all because i kept getting a BSOD on restart trying to update via windows update.
So it installed fine via usb image.
Could be it, I also tried a hot swap HDD bay for 2 x 2.5" drives but it didn't work out so I removed it. Only I'm not sure if problem showed before or after. I also turned of hot swap in BIOS for that SATA port but didn't help any. Changed SATA ports, still nothing. It's still showing it as removable drive and not reading disks.
P.S. it's not first time this happened.
