I wonder what the chances of 16295 being RTM.

I suppose for this to work, usb drive would need same drive letter associated?

    Hi,

Nope, W10 hardly relies on drive letters if at all. It can put Windows.old on a different partition or drive IME.
No idea if they (MS) documented this somewhere though.

I've also seen it write part of the installation files to a different drive as well.

    Cheers,
Exactly, drive letters are lost or rearranged in between Desktop mode, WinPE and WinRE so that would not work. What Windows could use is Partition GUIDs or hardware IDs to find exact drive and device used during setup. I doubt however that Windows needs that either.

It's getting about time for the RTM. The announced release date is less than 4 weeks away.

I think Zac Bowden knew "something" when he answered this to Jen Gentleman, but it's my guess, nothing more, I may be wrong:

Another quick update, whilst i appreciate the new build maybe the builds should be a little slower but more features in each new build
I'm pretty sure it's too late for new features in RS 3. We're less than a month away from the Fall Creators Update, so MS is concentrating more on bug zapping, rather than new features. My experience with the Insider Program has been that within the last month of bug fixes and such, new Builds will be hot and heavy until the final release to General Public.

    OK, was just checking.

Did you know that there is a minimum free disk space requirement for running Windows reliably? Also Windows supports upgrading when there is at least 8-9 GB free space (I don't remember the exact bytes).

I guess I have to try 32-bit Windows next on an even smaller drive to see if it eats my carrot too. :)
Well, there has clearly been a significant change. My tablet only had about 3 GB spare, nowhere near enough for windows.old. I put the iso on my SD card, and attached 32GB USB drive formatted as NTFS.

It canme up with a screen I had never seen, saying I needed at least an extra 0.5GB on internal storage and at least 10 GB on USB drive.

Did a disk cleanup to get the extra 0.5 GB easily enough. Now upgrading to 16251 slow ring iso version. I am confident windows.old will turn up on external drive, then I will try the rollback.

This is a very good improvement. I think it must have come with CU as I never got it to work before without uninstalling stuff.

I really like to Windows handle cleaning temporary files by itself... but determining size of them could be better... (disk cleanup shows correct size)
