Disabling Cortana, it being an integral part of W10, is the equivalent of purchasing a new car with two wheels missing.
Not really, since with 2 wheels only, a car can not move without destroying the whole car, while Windows can be run without any issues while Cortana is completely shut off.

I use Cortana, but I am in no way limited by it's presence nor absence. It is just adding another way of doing certain things.

I was referring only to the update problem, in other words a suggestion, you would not nor should not do either.

I have been abandoned - I must be on MS blacklist for daring to post on hub how bad how UUP was - LOL.

I have a total clean install of 12881 and done nothing except disable Cortana.

Tried all the usual tricks but still no updates.

Still, at the end of the day, I will simply clean install ACU when it comes out. Not worth wasting any more time on this.
Interesting issue you are having there. Have you seen any reports of other UK OS users with the same issue?

    Hi Cerebus,

    now the silly question.

On a clean install IP defaults to SLOW ring, did you change to FAST.

oh...I think it's an excellent idea to disable Cortana if you don't use it and you don't want it poking around in all UWP apps that supports Cortana.

If I understood correctly @cereberus issue is that he does not receive any updates at all. And he also stated that only thing out of the ordinary was that he disabled Cortana, which should not change anything for nor against regarding his update issue.

I don't see anything that he could have done wrong here regarding missing WUs.

Great point! Also we have to remember that it can takes days before the new status gets activated.

Last time I clean installed, registered to Insider builds and switched to Fast Ring, WU started downloading new build before I even got to the WU page. Seems it can take anything from 1 second to 3 days for the IP status to get activated. :)
