I just checked and the notice that updates aren't ready yet is gone, but now I'm being told the system is up to date. However, checking WinVer shows me Build 16281, not Build 16288. I've checked and I'm still on the Fast Ring.

    Anyone else seeing this?
Yes, my system says that as well

Try using the Windows Update PowerShell scripts, to see if the upgrade got hidden for some reason. You should be able to re-enable the upgrade using the scripts.

BTW, NO preview version message at the bottom right of the screen!
I noticed that. I wonder what (if anything) it means. That is normally for the generally released builds but it seems a bit early.

It is early...Dona (or someone) mentioned that the watermark is gone, but may re-appear because they are still checking in new code.

    1. Do a full disc cleanup of C drive (including system files)
    2. Delete all files and folders from C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads
    3. Run SFC /SCANNOW
    4. Disable all startup items Using Task Manager
    5. Disable all non-MS services using System Configuration and then reboot when prompted
    6. Disable any Antivirus you have enabled
    7. Run Windows Update
    8. Keep fingers crossed
    9. After successful install, re-enable AV, Startup Items and finally the non-MS services and reboot

What about reading release notes? Everything is there.

On Build 16288, you will notice that the watermark at the lower right-hand corner of the desktop has disappeared. You will also see that the OS now reports as “Version 1709” which is the official version number for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update release. However, this is NOT the final build as we’re not done yet. We’re just now beginning the phase of checking in final code to prepare for the final release. So we will have more builds to release to Windows Insiders between now and then. And the desktop watermark may re-appear in these builds.
