Reports are now coming in of IE failing to open after this update. Apparently it only affects those who had the address/search bar and the tabs on separate rows before the update. For example:

Separately I have just updated a Win7 machine, which included a similar update for IE11. Apparently what we should have seen on opening IE after the update (and what appears to be broken in the Win10 version) was this:

I am seeing the exact same thing. This update seems to have totally screwed up Edge.

I can provide a little more information, I have 3 user accounts (1 admin and 2 normal user, all MS accounts) on the computer and 2 of the 3 accounts has this error. The one account that does not have the error is a normal account (not admin).

So in my mind it is user specific in some manner.

I have 'New tab' set to blank page and don't see this. You can search in the address bar, so why even bother showing the search box ?

Edge issues have now been added to the list of known issues in this update

After installing this update, some users may observe performance or unresponsiveness issues on the first launch of the Microsoft Edge browser.

Closing and restarting Microsoft Edge will alleviate this issue. This issue may appear periodically. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

I have New Tab set to 'Top sites' because I find it a very useful springboard to my regular haunts. It ANNOYING and gets in my way

However, I was seeing the same issues (Event ID 1000 and 5973 related to Edge).

They occurred when opening Edge or new tabs within it.

The 5973 appears to be saying that the app (Edge) is not starting in the required time.

I also got Event 2484 - "Edge taking too long to suspend"

I rebooted several times and each time, the Events became fewer when I used Edge until after 4 reboots I did a complete power down and back up - which in theory, should have had no more effect than a Restart!

However now I can use Edge and I cannot even force the Events to appear. Most odd.

Having said all that - still think Edge is a rotten browser compared to Chrome!

Sorry to quote my own post, but it seemed to be the most useful way to present my findings!

I've now updated 2 desktops on Win 10 Pro and 1 laptop on Win 10 Home.

The only issues I've seen apart from the the small tickbox change on IE (Post # 105) are the ones concerning Edge.
I've seen those on all my machines and have found that if you wait for all the other updates to which I referred above to complete, then, and this seems to be important, shutdown and power up again, rather than just Restart, then the Edge problems cease.

I have no idea why, but that is my experience...YMMV!

Just updated my Dell laptop with SSD. All done in ten minutes. Free space before was 47.5Gb, free space after 47.7Gb (weird) and a disk clean showed 1.87Gb available to clean up. Disk clean took only a couple of minutes, free space still at 47.7Gb.

Edge had the reported issue of not opening. I had just a grey screen which I left. After a couple of minutes Edge closed automatically. Reopened and was greeted with a mix of tabs working and some unresponsive. Some sites worked, some didn't. A reboot seems to have fixed that. Edge actually feels more snappy than before (and it was darned quick to begin with). I feel this is genuine because I use Edge exclusively.

Not seeing the problem of this extra search box or account option. Only visible difference is the Favourites star symbol has changed and been combined with the three horizontal lines symbol.

All is calm, no disc usage, no fans, all very responsive. Haven't found any long term issue as yet.

I have mouse lag/stutter problem after updating. edge problems gone after resetting its data.
