From the time I went into PC Settings until Windows 10, updated, was running, took over 2:15 on my computer.
On my wife's computer, it looks as though my fifth attempt to download and install the update may be successful, as it is now showing 27% downloaded. This is the first time that I ever go anything downloaded, as far as I know: While I did not sit at the computer and watch, the previous attempts all ended with a failure/retry message. Not even a reboot fixed it. Both computers use Malwarebytes 3 Premium, so without checking, I am assuming that they are both using the same database update. ( I know that they have the same program update.) Before starting the current attempt, I disabled Web/Exploit/Malware Protection in Malwarebytes, which seems to have allowed the Windows Update to proceed.
Update see,s to be stalled at 27%, but I noticed similar lengthy delays in updating my machine; I just hope that her computer does not see that I am posting this....

Last noticed that Preparing to Install was stalled at 70%; that was followed by a failure. After spending some four and one-half hours updating one computer, failing to update the other, I have given up for the day (and am wondering if the automated update process will run later and, if so, will have any better luck. This is the worst update episode I can recall for quite some time. I believe it was last month's update that failed on my wife's computer, but it took only two tries, and they were both much faster than today's absurdly slow processes.
Gorilla Glue, used to repair a screen door today, worked faster than did Windows 10 Update, and I did not even have to watch it cure.

To conclude, having said I was done for the day, I decided to make one more test. This time, instead disabling parts of Malwarebytes 3 Premium, I exited the program, then started another attempt to update the miscreant computer. Perhaps fifteen or twenty minutes later, I walked over and checked the progress.
To my bewilderment, the updater stated that it needed to restart the computer to finish the process; after reading that more than once, to be sure it really did say that, I restarted the computer, which proceeded to install what I had to assume was the monthly update.
Once Windows was again running, I checked the update history, which stated that the update had been installed twice, which seems not only unlikely, but impossible, given that I had only reached the restart point once. I will never know if it was Malwarebytes that was causing all the problems on my wife's computer, and possibly also causing the slowness of the update on my computer.Last edited by Not Myself; 13 Sep 2017 at 06:55.

After 10 minutes of downloading on a fast cable ISP, it just went from 6% downloaded, to 7%.
Question: Where can we find the download size of these (or any) Windows10 updates? Didn't Microsoft use to provide the size up-front, and we could decide to download now, or later? It seems that the company is embarrassed about how big these are getting.
Edit to add: It's still at 7%. Maybe Windows 10 can't download updates while we're busy using the computer? Can't walk and chew gum at the same time any longer?

I downloaded the Windows Update Stand Alone package from the link posted and started the installation almost 1 hr 30 minutes has passed and still in "copying packages to the windows update cache", is this normal? how long it should take this part? I don't know if i should stop it and re-try normally with Windows Update.

On the Settings, Updates and Security scroll down on the right side and click Learn more and wade through to find the link for the Windows Update Catalog. This is the link I just got:
Microsoft Update Catalog
The sizes available depend upon the version, 64-bit is larger than 32-bit.
