"Aluminum house wiring" haven't hear that term in many many years.

Anyway...we all seem to do what we do based on reasons fortified by our experiences.

I power off my tower off every night. Close everything out, then Alt/F4 > Enter. I have a switchable power strip that has the monitors, the printer & sound amp transformers, and my desk lamp plugged in that I switch off also. It saves energy and I think the heat wears anything down with time.

Hibernation is the second-best alternative, but I wonder what that does to an SSD. If I’m only gone for a bit I place it in sleep.

My lappy I rarely use other than watching videos when going to sleep. It’s hooked up to a 32” TV via HDMI. It goes to sleep, then I close it out, power off, and unplug it.

I updated a PC from build 15063.540 with an ISO keeping all my files in about 30 minutes, I thought some of the problems of build 16273 would not appear when updating from CU, but they're still there, Spotlight still doesn't work and, like others already have said, problems with the sleep function continue, I have different shortcuts to power plans and I was used to simply clicking on those shortcuts and that the plan will be activated, but now every time I click on those shortcuts I also have to reboot the PC to activate the power plan, quite annoying, I really hope that Microsoft fixes this problem before October because that feature is vital for the huge number of people using laptops and tablets, also still persists this strange bug in Accessibility- Magnifier-Keyboard shortcuts:

Another problem I had when upgrading to this build is that Groove doesn't recognize the music I have in my local folders.

Sure, but it has nothing to do with a PC whatsoever. Inrush currents stresses every semi-conductor but wires? Come on !!
That said, there are current limiting devices and so on. This is such an old legend really. Modern devices take powercycling graciously.
That coming from a guy designing valved electronics only and making sure they last a life time.

Pretty much follow the same course. Everything off at night but use Hibernation when away for a couple of hours or more and Sleep when less. I don't even like charging anything at night including my wife's tablets but she does it anyway.

When I was gainfully employed we had IT's and some PC Gurus (I'm neither) and no one could really agree what to do with our personal PC's at night. I think final consensuses was to shut down at night for safety sake.

No Hibernation for me, as I have an all SSD Mac and being a green guy I use the shut down option every day. Except when render jobs are running late. [emoji41]

EDIT: Update again went smooth, but forgot to post my Winver...
