In the future, as Microsoft has announced, feature upgrades will be released in MArch and September. Therefore, the logical version numbers for next feature upgrades will be 1709, 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909, 2003, 2009 and so on.
How does a September release as you square with the official announcement that the Fall Creators Update or whatever will be released Oct 17th?

Done. Took 2.5 hours this time, much longer than ever before.

Glad you got the update. Yes it took a long time to complete but in my case, I suspect a lot of the time was wasted on creating a backup of the previous which took 27.5GB of disk space

Trouble in paradise. Just tested Hyper-V and I lost Internet Connectivity - somehow the External Ethernet Switch seems to have gotten trashed after the upgrade. I'm removing the Hylper-V feature and seeing if I can't ire-install it.

    Some rebooting coming up.

Hyper-V is fixed. Interestingly when the feature was re-installed it needed to create another virtual network adapter - see attached imageAnnouncing Windows 10 Insider Preview Skip Ahead Build 16353 for PC-hyper-v-2.png

Remote Desktop Connection to the Windows Server 2016 Hyper-V VM is working as well. I'm particularly happy about this. Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Skip Ahead Build 16353 for PC-remotedesktopconnection.png

Anniversary Update was released August 2nd 2016, yet it's version 1607. In addition, there's no reason to believe version numbering would be changed from what Microsoft has announced.

It's usually about a month earlier that it appears in Insider ring(s) as "finished product" but still gets updated before it is released to general public, Methinks that's why it gets later major number earlier so it matches public (stable) release. That's pretty well industry standard and can be seen in Linux distros too but some call it "Stable Beta # or name xx"
