Looks like you're up on some affect, eh Kari?
I can see a pattern: When a new build is released, if I boot an Insider machine and first update Defender definitions using Defender GUI, and only thereafter check Windows Update which then finds the new build, the download / preparing / initializing phase of the upgrade does not fail.

However, if I let WU to check the updates / upgrades and it finds both Defender definition update and a new build, most often (I estimate two times out of tree) the download, preparing or initialising phase fails (in my case, that is; I am not stating a fact, just what I have experienced).

I get no failed downloads when doing this first, and only when done letting WU to check available updates / build upgrade:

You are right @Kari . Noticed that myself on the last few builds.

Interesting. Never had that problem before with prior builds with Defender update included, but with this last one I had Defender update and my build update, although it completed the process (as you may remember) was missing some files where the UUPtoISO failed. After performing a DISM command > Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth, it found a corrupt image. Then did the restore health command, then a sfc scan did indeed added the missing files, for I got a quick "Working on updates" screen just after the restart command.

I did a clean install of Build 16273 and it went amazingly fast (I talking less than 15 minutes to boot screen. Cortana speech recognition has improved and I could use it reliably during the install (use headphones and mic). On the down side, I found that the Insider Preview did not pick up my Microsoft Account and when I linked it I was reverted to the Slow/Active branch. I needed to apply the registry hack which worked.

It's a good thing it will go fast because I will need to do again. When I reinstalled the BootIt Bare Metal boot loader I made the mistake of agreeing to fix what it thought was an head/cylinder alignment problem. This made the Windows Bootloader unable to find boot files - thus I'm writing this from Debian. I realize the mistake I made was actually deleting the Windows 10 partition - when I redo this I will just reformat it - that will leave the heads/cylinders unchanged (at least I hope so). Before I did that I completed the upgrades to the VirtualBox VMs I mentioned so I'll copy them back to Debian from Windows Server 2016. Basically, this build seems pretty solid.

I forgot to add a major problem with this ISO. There was no option to "Repair this Computer" which is why I suspect I will need to re-install unless I want to rummage around for another Windows install disk - or download one. Most likely "Repair" would correct the boot problem but then I'd need to re-activate the Terabyte bootloader again anyway. 6 of one, half-dozen of the other - I think I'll just sleep on it.

Same here, I even complained about it few builds ago. Since then I update WD manually first and then proceed with build.

I've never used the Films & TV app (read: at least not since last reinstall), yet every time I start PC, it's shown as a process in Task manager. I understand that Skype process is automatically run, using it quite often, but why Films & TV? No other UWP processes are started automatically.

Maybe MS is preparing for the support of displaying commercials on our desktops!?

UPDATE: Films & TV does NOT auto start for me. No such process running. I do however have Calc and Store running.

Have you removed anything Film & TV Live Tiles related from START?

Live tile removed, yes. App itself not uninstalled, these native UWP apps take so little storage space that I see it unnecessary to uninstall them even if I will never use them.
