Just reinstall W7 and run all rounds of updates until you can upgrade to 10.

My Windows 10 reservation icon went missing 2 days ago and the Windows Update tool no longer mentions anything about Windows 10 reservation. I'm stumped and pissed as to why this could be.

I tried the force download several time and got an update failure each time.
Finally, when I checked windows explore for the $window directory and found it I did the force download and it worked.
Based on my experience you must first have the $windows directory before the force download will work.
After it is finished I will report back on the results.

The upgrade went without a hitch but my Windows 10 , as predicted by John Pembrio is not activated. Does anyone have a solution to this? Fortunately I have a Windows Insider copy on another drive but I would like to have this one fully functional

To me MS does not has a successful lunch so far. Most of our PCs are holding at "Upgrade to Windows 10 -Failed" today while GWT keep on telling us of the "Validation" or "...almost ready...".

It's too rush for only the purpose of "Back To School"?

I just looked at a machine that only had the10240 build on it and I have 2 folders, $Windows.~BT and a $Windows.~WS (7/29/2015). I also downloaded the MediaCreationToolx64.exe and made a ISO file from that and loaded it on an old Win 7 laptop and it seemed to work. I used the preview key from the preview and it took it, but I still can't get it to activate my copy I made.

I am doing an upgrade on build 10240 using media creation tool iso i created. Its media creation tool that adds those two folder I think. Insiders shouldn't have those two folders only after media creation tool it appeared there. It will interesting updated build 10240 using the iso i downloaded :)

I hadn't used the media creation tool on this machine. I just took a peek to see what was going on and I notice the two folders.

Woke up today and went to my computer. The upgrade icon said my update was ready. Initialized install and took a shower. When I came back, Windows 10 was installed on my computer! All activated with no problems. Everything seems to be working fine!

    Yay!

    another failure story

So, my wife has a win 7 home machine, she has the windows icon, she has been told her machine is set for win10, she has the $`windows bt folder, over 6 gigs inside, but, like so many others, she has had 4 "windows failed to upgrade to win 10" messages in her windows update history..
Fortunately, she is very patient, and wants to want for it to happen "naturally", but, of course, I want to find a way to make it happen for her tonight..
I also ran the update prompt from a elevated command window, and that did absolutely nothing..

She doesnt want me to install from the iso I have, so is there anything to try to make it happen "naturally"?

    thanks!
