I honestly don't know what to believe as I seriously doubt Consumer Report would willy nilly intentionally publish those findings without cause. They certainly have case to support their claim - Welcome to Surfacegate - Thurrott.com

That said, MS wouldn't be the only company in the world to have QC issues - Apple, been there, done that. Samsung, yeah. Such is the world of tech. MS just needs to be honest with this, fix the issues, and comfort their customer base. Something easier said than done.

With that, If I didn't have my Lenovo, I'd still go for Microsoft's Surface Book Pro.

    My Two cents.
Consumer Reports does not provide the specific, detailed statistics of how its Surface customer sampling that it's recommendation is based on. (This is typical of how they review a product.) While it might be accurate in some cases to extrapolate its sample population of Surface users, in this case Microsoft actually has the full picture on the reliability metrics for its product as they are using the actual full reliability metrics, not a sample of all that may or may not be accurate. Said another way, a sample may or may not be statistically accurate. The entire set is always accurate.

We went looking at the Surface about a year ago. We didn't buy because the prices were ridiculously high.

We did not know then that the quality was so poor. I'm glad we spent half as much to get a better laptop. (The only thing we didn't get is a touch screen. But no worries that.)

I'm not picking sides here as I don't know who's right or wrong, but please Microsoft, don't sell me the "commitment to our customers" line because a lot of us had anything but.

Anyway whatever the issues are, I do hope they solve them.
As do I but I will never get one.
