Mozilla plans to remove the search bar of the Firefox web browser by default in Firefox 57. While the search bar will be off for new users, existing users won't notice any difference to the previous setup as the search bar remains visible when the browser is updated to Firefox 57.
..It is still possible to add the search bar back to the Firefox interface, for instance by using the customize menu. Mozilla plans to add an option to the browser's search preferences as well.

Nightly adds the ability to 'Auto-hide' the downloads icon, which will show only when there is ongoing download processes...

... but will still be accessible through the overflow menu...

I already turned it off since you can search from the address bar.

It's probably just a quirk of mine, but I prefer to keep the 2 operations separate.

Same here. If they got rid of it totally that would be a deal breaker for me and good bye FF. Glad they are allowing it to be used.

Thanks - I'm still using regular FF. Tried Nightly but some of my Legacy add-ons are not compatible yet. Will wait and see if they become compatible or find replacements between now and November.

I am now on Firefox Nightly 58. Still seems to be working fine. Using multi-process appears faster on some sites (Like Google Maps)
