......I think you need to install an older version of Fx, install your favorite extensions and then download Nightly.

Not sure Fx 57 will work as designed using non compatible extensions. Any third party theme will break the multiprocessing .

Mozilla to kill all existing extensions in Firefox 57 - Winaero

Mozilla to kill all existing extensions in Firefox 57

Mozilla today published the extension roadmap for Firefox, which reveals a huge shift with extensions in the browser. With the release of Firefox 57, support for all classic XUL extensions will be discontinued.
Firefox 57 is expected to be released in November 2017. The release will feature the switch to WebExtensions instead of XUL add-ons. Additionally, the special compatibility layer which exists currently for add-ons having issues with the multiprocess (e10s) mode will also be removed from the browser.

    Chrome it is!

I like Chrome for it's Sync, Performance and Speed and Voice Search,

but what I really miss with Firefox is "When opening a link in a new Tab, switch to it immediately", (also applies to 'wheel clicking' bookmarks)

and, wheel clicking anywhere on the empty header opens a new tab!

do you have the official latest firefox released installed? if so then just install the addon in it, restart if asked to, close it, then launch the 57 nightly should be there now. you may need the about:config hack mentioned above.
The nightly build of Firefox is the only build I've had loaded in a very long time. My main browser is Pale Moon. I also use Chrome as my secondary browser. I only use Edge for testing. IMHO Edge is far from being ready and if IE is any kind of example MS will never get that right either.

Most of the add-ons I use are no longer being updated. If I can't use my add-ons in Firefox or Pale Moon I guess I'll have to find another browser.

If you have autoupdate turned on in the add-ons setting they should.
