Does the icon/tile that firefox 57 creates in Windows 10 start menu have a black background? Is it supposed to be like that? Can it be changed?
@tomseys Yes, it does. A shortcut on the Desktop would look like the old one, but the Start Menu tile is a square with black background (actually a very dark blue). I looked at the properties of a FF shortcut and than change icon, and these are the choices I had.

Thanks f14tomcat. Yeah I have similar options. If I try and change the icon nothing happens. It stays black. I experienced something similar with Chrome - it had an icon/tile (medium) I did not like - and it would not change the icon through properties of the icon the tile points to. I had to delete an xml file and then the icon would change. Not sure how to do that with FF or if that is what is required.

Sorry, me neither. The Start Menu does render them differently, and I don't know how or where to tinker.

Okay i think I found the file where the icon code is. It is here:

    firefox.VisualElementsManifest.xml.

It's located in Program Files/Mozilla Firefox folder.

It has code that involves the tile firefox image and has the exact color of the background which seems to be more of a very dark blue : #000f40. I'm going to see if I can delete the xml file or edit it to have the much lighter blue color.

Update: Okay i just renamed the above file to:

    firefox.VisualElementsManifest.xml-bak

Then I right clicked the FF tile in start menu and chose more..open file location. This brought me to the image and I right clicked it and chose properties and changed the icon to the other firefox icon (two of the same) and now the tile icon no longer has the dark background - it has the light blue one. The FF symbol is also smaller like many of the other tiles. I guess without the xml file it takes on Windows default settings or whatever you have set for color scheme.

I think I prefer it like this - more even visually.

Yes it is this color: #000f40 at least for me.

I renamed the xml file that I guess controls it and now after switching icon in icon properties I'm getting a light blue background with a smaller FF icon like my other tiles.

I changed my default from FF to Chrome and haven't had to use IE to use a site yet.
Maybe if they listened to their users ?

I have never had to use IE and I am not ever going to. Mozilla does listen to their users.

Probably smaller because you're now seeing a .ico embedded image, and icon images are smaller...like 64x64 or 128x128, etc. I think I know what I'm saying, not sure! :)
