    Interesting. First I've heard of it. Where does one get the key?
    It is in products.ini and ends with XD863. Not sure if we can post even generic keys here.

    I don't need ReFS or any of the other stuff in the slightest at the moment. I do though like the word "Advanced" and, to be honest, I'd probably pay a hundred or two to upgrade just for that word (assuming it showed discreetly on every boot).

    I would as well if you mean Hungarian Forints - approx 330 Forints / £ - LOL.

    Thanks. I'll let Admin decide, but it's not like we're pirating here. We're testing builds. Firstly one needs to be a registered Insider to get a build to upgrade. This is similar to obtaining the Skippy build.

    Here's just one article on the subject.

    In a leaked slide, Microsoft describes the edition as “Windows 10 Pro for Workstation” with four main capabilities:

    - Workstation mode: Microsoft plans to optimize the OS by identifying “typical compute and graphics intensive workloads” to provide peak performance and reliability when Workstation mode is enabled.

    - Resilient file system: Microsoft’s file system successor to NTFS, dubbed ReFS, is enabled in this new version, with support for fault-tolerance, optimized for large data volumes, and auto-correcting.

    - Faster file handling: As workstation machines are typically used for large data volumes across networks, Microsoft is including the SMBDirect protocol for file sharing and high throughput, low latency, and low CPU utilization when accessing network shares.

    - Expanded hardware support: Microsoft is also planning to allow Windows 10 Pro for Workstation on machines with up to 4 CPUs and a memory limit of 6TB. Windows 10 Pro currently only supports 2 CPUs.

    Well I did buy an upgrade from 7 Pro to Ultimate with my own money but I had to pay in €. I justified it to change language to English (which you couldn't do in 7 Pro) but partly it was wanting the top version. Sad but true there are a few enthusiasts about.

    Seriously though even if all 5 of the people in the world who require ReFS formatting on Pro are inconvenienced by this it is but a minor bore for them. For 99.9% of people it makes no difference except precedent.

    On the other hand, is it worth getting ProfessionalWorkstation for free? Of course - same as it was earlier in the insider program when you could get Windows 10 Pro for free. I still have 2 PCs running gratis license - if they are offering it again and you want it then you should take it.

    It isn't as if they did it by mistake - clearly it is a bonus for insiders.

    That's odd - the last five characters of the Product key. I've recently seen at least two different Product.ini files with ProfessionalWorkstation generic keys that do not match that one:

    professionalworkstation=... ...-2YV77

    ProfessionalWorkstation=... ...-7YMDX

    For those interested you make you own Professional Workstation ISO. Strangely enough it is one of the upgrade paths from Windows 10 Home (Core) builds 16257.1 or 16257.1000.

    I will spare everyone the details, but for those who are interested here is the link to how to do this.

    Anyone else convert this build from Pro to ProfessionalWorkstation by sticking in the generic key incidentally? Will see if next build upgrades it and if it keeps the permanent activation. Would be interesting if it does.
    I tried the XD863 key from Windows 10 Pro 15063.540 and it did not work. It may need to be on a 16257.1 or 16257.1000 build for this to work.

    It needs to be 16257.1. I tried clean install of 16257.1000 and the key was not accepted (although the conversion method in your link worked fine).

    Also I want to move out of insider after fall update so better to be on .1 I think.
