Must admit I don't know that one - what does CTRL+LSHIFT+ENTER do?
I'm curious too. I've used that key combo in Excel for CSE Formulas, but not opening a program/app. It brings up the UAC when attempting to open a win32 program. Click yes and the program opens. It just opens a UWP app with no UAC.

Here is another opinion on the "desktop." I only keep two icons on my desktop, one is a link to the internet and one is a link to my local storage. I usually have a multi-boot scenario on my PC, and I keep those two icons placed on my desktop at exactly the same place on each of my operating system's desktops.

Once I changed my wallpaper to be identical on each of my operating systems, but that led to a bit of confusion on my part. Now I just keep the standard issue wallpaper for each OS that I have installed, but my regimen of just two icons placed in the same exact spot has remained.

I usually have two icons on my desktop. Recycle Bin and a folder with program shortcuts, Frequently used programs go on the taskbar.

Interesting to read about so many different ways to do things.

For me, pressing WIN-key, typing the first or two first letters of the app I want to run and then either pressing ENTER or CTRL+LSHIFT+ENTER is the fastest way to open up apps. Takes me ages to navigate through menus.

Got to love the search function in START. I've used it ever since MS forced us to use the full screen application launching thingie (The current START layout in tablet mode) in Windows 8. :)
Yes, interesting indeed. I see we have some navigation techniques in common. The WinKey is one of the most innovative navigation features ever introduced. Started using it a lot at towards the end of 7 and using the search function also. Started using the ("full screen application launching thingie" ) Start Screen in 8/8.1. I've refined it by playing Windows like an instrument. WinKey with my left hand and mouse functions with the right.

I've used Office for years. Used to have Desktop shortcuts for many of my most-used files. In 8/8.1 and the first few builds of 10 Brink developed a .reg file to add “Pin file to Start” which worked well, but no longer worked in later 10 builds. It was a happy moment for me when MS finally added context menus to tiles to either pin to the list or showing some recently opened.

BTW, thanks for mentioning the Ctrl/Shift/Enter key combo. Never knew that one.

I try to keep my main PC desktop peaceful looking and with just the shortcuts for things I use most often.
