Would be interesting to see what % of the Insiders opted for the "Skip Ahead". My guess, they limited the participation in the "Skip Ahead" program so as not to deplete the number of Insiders in the rs3 program.
No I am not missing the point.
MS started the Program for two main reasons.
- To get Windows out faster and get bugs fixed faster
- To know what features users really want and rather work on that than features nobody want
If you haven't noticed, a lot of stuff people really hate gets removed or fixed rather quickly. Demand causes supply, or MS would soon run out of business.
We are building Windows together, though insiders are not writing any code, we are still actively part of the design team.
Of course I want a fully operational OS for my personal use, that is why I use computers in the first place. To get things done, and that requires the OS to work as expected with useful features.
I do however NOT expect that everything is bug free while an insider, but I DO use beta software with new features as soon as possible if they work stable enough for my use.
Who benefits from this? MS only? NO, we all benefit from it!! The main point of the program is to move forward NOT backwards, isn't it?
Well said all the way around, except for one thing. I’m thinking MS wants everyone on RS3 release to test for the Fall release. All the features they want introduced are already implemented. The Insider skip-ahead/prerelease option will continue after the Fall OEM release.

Just to return to the testing part, as some people think I expect MS to write their OS for MY benefit only:
I have found a lot of components in latest builds that are over 2 years old and containing all the bugs that has already been fixed 3 times. Why would I want such components to exist on my latest insider build, when I already know they have a working version. I rather have the latest component with new unstable features, where the old features works like a charm, than having the old component with no new features and all the bugs there interfering with basic functionality of the OS. That takes only patience and time from the important parts, the NEW features.
