Nice English pub.....hardly the place to compose a thread on a computer forum.....this being a forum read by millions surely an acceptable standard of English should not be too much to ask.

I have two PRO N virtual machines working at the moment, the one I already got .1
With reading up on the N and KN editions I'm surprised to see so many. I see these are variations of lean editions some without Cortana, Media player, and/or other technologies.

    Windows 10 Home N
    Windows 10 Pro N
    Windows 10 Education N
    Windows 10 Enterprise N
    Windows 10 Enterprise N Evaluation
    Windows 10 Enterprise N 2015 LTSB
    Windows 10 Enterprise N 2015 LTSB Evaluation

    Windows 10 Home KN
    Windows 10 Pro KN
    Windows 10 Education KN
    Windows 10 Enterprise KN
    Windows 10 Enterprise KN Evaluation
Windows 10 Enterprise KN 2015 LTSB
Windows 10 Enterprise KN 2015 LTSB Evaluation

Then many baseline editions of Windows 10: Windows 10 editions - Wikipedia

And if your children or grandchildren over the age of seven showed you homework with words like "wuz, iggerence or structions" you would be happy?
Not for my children - they are parents themselves, and beyond lexical correction - but for their children, I probably would be very happy, because Wynona's examples* seem to show a deeper understanding of the underlying language (and recognised standard usage), in a humerous vein of usage, than "wos or woz, ignerence, or instruxshuns" would, being either non-lexical phonetic reconstructions, spelling errors, or constructions that do not follow the usual fashion of written English.

In other words, Wynona's mash was perfectly seasoned.

    * Wynona at least prefixed "'structions" with an apostrophe to indicate the missing beginning letters.

"Lean" might not be an accurate definition but yes, European Union here and Korean government on other side of the globe have forced Microsoft to release some special editions.

The N editions are Microsoft's answer to European Union's complaint about using their market position wrong by including Windows Media Player in Windows, thus making it the chosen media player for an average home user. The N editions are full Windows editions, only missing part being WMP, some codecs and other media related stuff. To use a media player user must separately download either WMP (Media Feature Pack) or a third party alternative.

A Windows 10 N edition becomes full Home, Pro, Education or Enterprise in every aspect other than name (the edition name still includes letter N) as soon as user downloads and installs free Media Feature Pack from Microsoft.

The K editions are for Korean market where the local government requires Microsoft to include certain additional messaging and media player apps by default and shortcuts to these on desktop of every user. K editions come with WMP, the additional software is offered as alternative, not as replacement.

The KN editions, also only for Korean market, are then as the name already hints K edition without WMP. The same media feature pack that can be installed in N editions to make it full Windows can be installed on KN editions.

    Tip   Tip
If you are a Visual Studio subscriber (former MSDN), you can double your available product keys by installing N editions. In your subscriber product key section you will notice that N editions have different product keys than normal editions. For instance, you get certain amount of W10 PRO keys, and the same amount W10 PRO N keys.

As the Media Feature pack (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...703-april-2017) converts N editions to full Home, Pro, Education or Enterprise in every possible way, only the name remains as "N" edition, you will notice no difference in Windows functionality. It really is full Windows 10.

Now as N editions finally have been added to Insider program, using N + Media Feature Pack really doubles your chances to activate for instance additional W10 Insider virtual machines for testing.

Funny, even though MP is included in most Windows versions and editions I have ever installed, I never use it. :)

There was also a flap about IE but as it could never be completely omitted MS had to concede not to make it default browser.

EU is starting to become like US. Nagging about unimportant and pathetic things, suing for the most ridiculous reasons and fixing none of the real issues. I will soon move to the next galaxy if this behavior does not change.

    Thanks for all that, Kari.

By "lean" around here means "to cut some of the fat away" on meat so to make it lean. Yes, of course in technical terms I mean to exclude some features. The quote and link below are directly from MS. Along with WMP being excluded, there is quite a bit of other features and/or apps that are not included and features that won't work due to that fact.

The N and KN editions of Windows 10 include the same functionality as Windows 10, except for media-related technologies (Windows Media Player) and certain preinstalled media apps (Groove Music, Video, Voice Recorder, and Skype). You must install other software from Microsoft or a third-party for this communication functionality and to play or create audio CDs, media files, and video DVDs, to stream music, and to take and store pictures. New features such as Cortana and PDF viewing in the new Edge browser rely on Windows Media files that are not present in these editions.

Some websites and software, such as Windows Store apps or Microsoft Office, use Windows Media-related files that are not incorporated into these editions of Windows. Users can make these websites and software work correctly by installing the Media Feature Pack for N and KN editions of Windows 10.

No politics here as the rules state. I can only say that coming from Finland, having lived in half a dozen countries in Europe, currently in Germany, not needing to apply any permits, to be able to move freely into whatever EU country I want to, live, work and travel without restrictions, I am a huge EU fan.
