I don't think it's your imagination. After a clean install, sometimes all Store apps has already been populated and installed. No "We are getting things ready" screen or other Windows commercials. :)

During my clean install of 16251.0, the Store apps got installed really quickly. So yeah, it has improved quite a bit.

It always does, it's just that if left unmonitored and current time is outside active hours, Windows will restart by itself.

OMGoodness! I did the skip ahead thing after I'd installed 16251 but nothing happened. I checked on winver a couple or three times and then thought maybe it would have to wait until next time. But nothing had happened, so I went to check if I'd done it right, and there was a notice to install 16251.1000. Go figure . . .

@Wynona it can take up to 8h until the insider settings get populated, take effect and you find the proper upgrade build in Windows Update. MS has announced this on multiple occasions.

In my VM after clean install of 16251.0 and switch to Skip Ahead, it took about 5 seconds for the new build to appear in WU. It was like MS was waiting for me to do this jump. :)
