Micro$oft doesn't care what you think. They want to advance their "UWP apps" agenda and will do whatever it takes to kill as many native Windows programs as possible in order to replace them with a "UWP" alternative.

MS Paint - End of the Line

I'm sure a lot of people will have seen this through different channels.

Microsoft signals end of Paint program - BBC News

Paint is to be added to the list of programs which will no longer be developed, or may even be removed with future updates.

Sorry for posting the same link in the NEWS section - can't find a delete option.

I've been using IrfanView in place of Paint for years. Lite weight, fast with a lot of function.

A company, any company should care about their customers and what they think. GM did not do that for years and ended having to be bailed out by The Government.

Microsoft also did that with Windows 8 with the lack of the start menu.

I have a suspicion that Windows is going to become something that most hardcore desktop users are going to hate!
    (But that's just me!)

Anything Microsoft makes or does has been something "hardcore" desktop users have hated for the last two decades :)

Having said that, and no offence intended to anyone, I wouldn't class anyone who relies on Paint as a "hardcore" user. I have never used it because it is too basic - by way of a long story, it is why I currently use paid-for software. And yet I reckon there'll be a big shout from a lot of people about losing it. Perhaps understandably.

In what way am I not a hardcore desktop user? I mean, I just love the evolution of Windows which according to you, as I it understand, means I am just a "softcore" user.

As far as I am concerned, judging by what I read on these forums and other sites, most of the complaints seem to come from users who do use computers and Windows for almost exclusively to tweak them to be eye candy, things completely unrelated to functionality of Windows.

    Is that "hardcore"?

"Oh s**t! I can't make that icon on Start to be exactly 63.8 pixels and font 0.7 points smaller cursive burgundy red! Windows 10 sucks!"

Please tell me more. You obviously are a hardcore user, as obvious is that I am not. I would appreciate it from the heart of my bottom bottom of my heart if you could enlighten, educate and civilize me and tell what is the definition of a hardcore user?

As I am apparently not a hardcore desktop user and therefore not familiar with this, I would also appreciate a list of all things you hardcore users have hated in Windows past 20 years. I help you to get started with the list: In 1997 (20 years ago), current release of Windows was Windows 95. What was it you hardcore users hated in it?

    Tip   Tip
This might come as a surprise to you:

Contrary to what seems to be commonly believed, there are no laws in any of the 200+ countries in the world forcing an owner of a personal computer to use Windows or any other operating system.

You have full legal and moral rights to replace WIndows with any operating system of your choice, Seeing how some users apparently spend most of their time complaining about eye candy and other profoundly trivial issues with none whatsoever effect in functionality of Windows, I wholeheartedly recommend these users to find an operating system that can satisfy their needs.

It's not rocket science: If you hate your Ford, get a Volkswagen.
