After spending almost whole working life repairing and making automatic machines I came to shun automatic stuff because if everything is not calculated and fits in perfectly, something is bound to go wrong. Same thing goes for those updates, I'm not a control freak but with such variety of SW and HW getting every update to fit all the scenarios is next to impossible to predict. Automatic update to drivers is worst, so at least that has to be left to user to choose what and when to install.
For instance, drivers for my AMD GPU keep on replacing perfectly good v15.7 drivers with "newer" drivers that do not do as good a job.
Actually, I seem to have the opposite problem. Every time I clean up someone's virus-laden computer, they always have Automatic Updates off and when I turn them on it proceeds to do 100+ updates. For Home users, I think it's a very good idea to not let them skip (at least Security) updates.

Now, Microsoft started pushing drivers and that has definitely caused me some issues as they have always sucked at that. I think it's a good idea to push them with the OS, but only if they are guaranteed to get the right one and install it properly (which, despite Linux seeming to do it perfectly, Microsoft struggles mightily to get it right).

The RTM Build is the last insiders build 10240. It isn't the the upgrade version which is activated when you do the upgrade and you get a unique key then. I'm not sure what the OEMS get but I know they will get unique Windows 10 keys. The insiders won't get keys as they will remain insiders as long as they let their system get updates.
We don't know that for sure however, my testings have proved otherwise at least for me. I upgraded to build 10240 after withdrawing totally from the insider program. Then deleting all devices from one drive and my Microsoft account each time. Each of my test, it upgraded to build 10240 and was permanently activated. I build an iso image from 10240 esd using Kari instuctions. Got the key using showkey. Then I did a clean install and it activated.

I am not the only one thinking that insiders are already running the "real" windows 10

Don’t be surprised if Terry Myerson announces on July 29 that Insiders are already running the “real” Windows 10 -- and have been running it for a couple of weeks.

I have just read that article, and, much as I respect Woody, I have to question his last two 'facts'.

The FUD about bad patches ignores the real fact that patches will be pre-tested by millions of computers before the unwashed get them. And how is the 'bad patch scenario' any worse than the previous method?

As for being 'stone cold crazy' to install win 10 on a production machine..... That is just stupid and no fact at all. Sure, if you use your computer to control some vital processes you wouldn't do it without testing but there are a large number of us who have been using win 10 on their main computer for many months now. How else are you going to find out if it runs fine without installing it? Like I said, they won't be the pioneer!

I just returned from a mall in Murray, Utah where Microsoft had a booth to show off windows 10. I ask the guy if this was the version that would be sent out on July 29, and he said yes. I looked at WINVER on one of his computers and it was 10240.

I wonder if the guy was just misinformed. It would seem strange to me that MS would show it in public before it is released to the public. But on the other hand I've learned to never be surprised.

It has not been in public. It is an insiders group.

Sad thing, 10240 is still so damn buggy, especially on tablets having battery draining issues, and missing so many features announced. I guess Windows 10 will just be usable in a few months.

If you have retail 7 Ultimate you might consider selling them, they fetch a hefty price upgrade or full version as long as they are retail and of course most of what is on Ebay and Amazon's 3rd party sellers are fakes. No one sells Ultimate for $40 ..........legally.
I wish I could, Indiana, but they're all "not for resale" versions.

Is a "not for resale" label even legal where you live? I think there was a court decision for European members that this wasnt legal at all and costumers have a right to sell their OEM licenses too.
