Possible explanation, I don't know his setup, he could be on Release Preview Ring. That is technically Insider. My Release Preview Ring shows just that.

the insider program has been delivering updates all along..

- no problem..

Exactly! And YES I DO also test the latest insider builds, but the 16000 series builds has nothing new that I can test out on my hardware. No point dedicating a whole computer for something that does not bring any or just minimal new useful features I can test.

HERE is one paper that describes exactly what I am talking about.

The numbers in this paper describes exactly how I have experienced networking on Linux vs Windows ever since NT3.5 got released. Nothing much has changed. Latest Windows Server 2016 IP claims however that it has improved networking performance. However, I have not found any proof to back this up yet.

I am certain your 90 years old dad would get around in Ubuntu as well. Basic desktop usage on both operating systems is easy. There even exist UIs for Linux that looks and feels exactly as Windows. That Linux is difficult to use is more of a taboo than a fact. I am also certain your dad would also be lost in Windows Powershell. We can't be comparing a Linux BASH prompt with a Windows Desktop. Those two are 2 entirely different environments, just like PowerShell and Windows desktop are 2 completely different environments.

I'm just trying out locally developed ChaletOS DistroWatch.com: ChaletOS That looks and feels almost exactly as W7. Has a lot of shortcomings in details but used by somebody that used W7 for basic functions it wouldn't seem strange at all.
