Might the problem be that the enclosure I use is USB 3 as this latest old Toshiba laptop (I aquired) only supports USB 2?

The image shows the drive's state after a failed clone. It's initialised and shows in both programs prior to copying.

Fabler, IIRC, you can't clone a larger hard drive to a smaller one. Even if the amount of space used on the 300GB spinner is less than the 60 GB SSD will hold.

First, if rep was allowed in this section, I would have repped you now for your sincere effort to teach me English with that quote from a dictionary, explaining what word ridiculous means. As you know, English is not my native language, not even second or third language. I appreciate your willingness to help an uneducated person like me to understand your language better.

Reading that dictionary quote I couldn't help noticing how wrong I have been about it's meaning. An example: I have always thought being ridiculous meaning something like thinking / hinting / telling things like "This app is unnecessary, I will never use nor need it. Therefore, nobody needs it and it should not be included in Windows!".

Now I know better: ridiculous means things like saying that it is understandable that Microsoft cannot make Windows individually for each user.

Really, my sincere thanks for educating me :)

Windows 10 Creators Update - Clean Install without Windows Store (UWP) Apps



The method shown adds two minutes to time needed for a clean install giving you a stripped down Windows 10, or rather a complete Windows 10 without any UWP apps.

PowerShell command used in video to completely remove all UWP apps including Store during installation:

Get-AppxProvisionedPackage –Online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online

Alternative for those wanting to keep Store, to be able to reinstall and use UWP apps later on:

Get-AppxProvisionedPackage –Online | where-object {$_.packagename –notlike “*Store*”} | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online

Pro, Education & Enterprise users, this is the policy modified in video:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and taskbar > Start Layout

I never said or meant that what I said is that every user should have the right to chose and not reply on MS to tell users what they need. Now you can carry on with this if you so desire but as for me I am done. Have a Great Sunday.

BTW: I have all of those PS scripts.. But thanks anyway.

Here, I'm a little different from you, Kari. I wish Microsoft wouldn't throw in those things I don't want or would never use, like facebook, games and a few other crap apps.

As a f'r instance, I made the mistake (since corrected) of getting a 14" laptop with a 32GB drive. That extraneous junk that was installed made it impossible to update Windows 10. And once it had barfed, there was no reinstalling Windows! I took the first one back, thinking it was just a lemon, but when the second one did the same thing, I got my money back.

Edit: Forgot my train of thought here . . . With newer computers coming with less and less hard drive space, more and more folks will have the same problem I had. If the crapware weren't included, maybe they'd have a better experience.

So, yeah, I do wish we could get Windows 10 with nothing more than what we need; IOW, no crapware. That could be gotten from the Store if one wanted it.

I had pleasure to try and use couple of dozen of Linux distros lately and they are also full of stuff other than necessary to run it as an OS. That has been trend for very long time ago and none of them including Windows can be called OS, more like work/play/whatever environment. OS itself is smallest part of whole kitten caboodle. I guess there's no escaping that. Add to that some inattention to optimization of program size and memory usage of SW developers and all ends up in great mess and waste of resources. I remember running production of whole factory on a Timex Sinclair ZX-81 with 16K of memory and a 30 minute cassette.
