Hi there, Marty. The old way would be downloading all the files needed for the esd. UUP method downloads only the needed replacement files to combine with already existing files for the esd. That's the way I understand it anyway.
Thank you for the explanation H.G. It's a little confusing since Kari's uuptoiso program show that in fact all the bits have been downloaded just encrypted and compressed by about 35% - otherwise the ISO could not be created.
    Am I missing something here?

Some parts are already there and don't need to be downloaded again. It would be enough to MS releases ISO at same time, no need to switch to ESD type update.

    It depends.
A differential download package contains only the changes that have been made since the last time you updated your device, rather than a full build.
However, if you are not on a recent enough build UPP will download everything.
It’s also important to note that Windows Insiders may not get a differential download packages even if we ship them. A baseline build has to be set for differential download packages and if that baseline build is newer than the build Windows Insiders are updating from (in the case where they are not on the latest flight) – they will receive a larger download.

In those countries with a crappy internet connection the ideal is return to the old method since the size of the download is much smaller than the download of a complete ISO, in fact, that was one of the reasons why Microsoft changed to UUP, UUP would be ideal for those countries if the installation process were not so long.

Maybe we could be given the choice UUP, ESD, or ISO.

The old way was faster. This new method has way too many failures. I also would agree with @CountMike

Two figures without any context, without any sound analysis is a waste of time and totally fails to emphasise your original point. You could adjust my assumptions to your hearts content, and you would still come to conclusion XP users in US are less than 5% of worlds users.

StatCounter puts Windows XP share at just over 11 percent. XP's share in the United States is lower, 6.5 percent, according to StatCounter. 4.5% lower in the US that is still 6.5% of users in The US. Not everyone that lives here is rich.
I will stand by my original post it had a source and was not based on assumption.

What is this nonsense? Every user choose to run whatever OS and version they want (even Windows 10 users can block ALL updates). Does it really matter how many use which OS or who is right about the numbers?

I know many who still run MS-DOS 6.22(and even older), Windows 3.11 and NT 3.51. So what? These computers have specific tasks and there would be absolutely no point in upgrading the OS. They simply just work without a glitch on very old or simple very cheap hardware.

Personally I currently run Windows 10 (Latest release Preview), Windows Server 2012 R2, brandless Linux built from source, Ubuntu, Android, DOS, MenuetOS and KolibriOS...and many more. I bet this usage is not logged anywhere in the stats.

EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention that I also run Amiga Workbench (multiple versions) too.
