Now at 97% and another pause. I got started about 20 minutes late with download -- must have dozed off and forgot about new build.

The whole delivery system has changed recently. You can't compare to two years ago,or even 2 months ago. It has changed, and will change more. They are testing.
When was that? I could have sworn that was several months back, not weeks (I think you're referring to the delta changes system). I don't recall anything in recent release notes about the subject of installation.

Stuck on 97%. Had hoped for restart less than an hour in, but that's looking iffy now.

    Update: Nope, just hit Restart.

No, not talking about the death of ESD birth of UUP. Recently there have been changes to the delivery optimization process. They even sent out a test KB. I can't get to it now cause I'm on my lappy. But recent changes have been made.

Making ISO --- I know we're supposed to get one from ms, but trying to make myself remember to do this before restart.

No maxing here, just lots of activity, as is normal.
I guess I can't say at times that it spikes on some resources, but just a brief flash. For the most part it's all normal. It'd be nice to take a Task Man vid along with WU page open to compare. I suppose it could be done snapped side by side or dual monitors.

Now I'll see you all on the flip side.

I do recall the little update they pushed out, but didn't see much of an explanation to go along with it, and I wouldn't have connected that with this phenomenon, which seems much more like a regression than an optimization. It takes twice as long now just to get to the first reboot than it used to do the entire upgrade. That's a serious change.

Delta updates earlier this year made things slower--though there was some gain from that for those with bandwidth concerns--but so far, there's no apparent gain from this new "optimization." Here's hoping that we've just caught them in the middle of some master plan, but there's very little time left before the end of this testing cycle, so I don't have much hope of that.
