Modern Apps work fine, I just don't care to use most of them; I've let them know that.
    Telemetry continues as defaulted.

Time to quote an old post of mine:

    Windows 10 Alphabet Editions

As some of you know already, Microsoft has two limited editions of every version of Windows available, the Windows N and KN versions. The N editions come without Windows Media Features (read: Windows Media Player), and the KN is the same but for Korean market where authorities require a few desktop shortcuts to be added in Windows.

In addition there's already a third "alphabet" edition of Windows available, the Windows K edition which is for Korean market adding the same shortcuts as KN edition but comes with Windows Media Player.

Those having an N or KN edition can install the missing media features for free from Download Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10 from Official Microsoft Download Center.

This in their mind, Microsoft has now decided to expand this idea, offer limited editions of Windows in larger scale to please those users who have been complaining about native Windows applications they do not need. As you can read on these forums of ours and around the Interwebs, some users complain about Skype being now included in Windows 10 starting from Build 10565, other users complaining about why Paint is natively installed taking HD space when they use GIMP or PhotoShop, why Mail app is included when the user already uses Thunderbird, and so on.

Geeks, your misery will soon be over! Starting from Build 11000 Microsoft will release Windows 10 Alphabet Editions:

    • Windows 10 A Edition
      • Without Alarms & Clock for those who already have an alarm clock

    • Windows 10 B Edition
      • Without Backup & File History for those who already use Macrium

    • Windows 10 C Edition
      • Without Calculator for those who already have calculator on their smartphones

And so on, an Alphabet Edition for every need.

You can also combine the Alphabet Editions, for instance if you want Windows 10 Pro without Backup and Skype you would need to get Windows 10 Pro BS Edition, and accordingly a user who needs Windows 10 Home but does not want Paint, WordPad, Media Player, Insider Hub and Maps apps would need to install Windows 10 Home PWNIM Edition.

With this move Microsoft finally acknowledges the fact that users are right demanding that each and every user around the globe should get Windows exactly as they want it, that the policy to release a complete operating system to cater the needs of the general public has been wrong.

    Source.

Had some fun today - took an image of the Pro set up on C:\, restored it to D:\, changed the key using an Education Edition key - and it upgraded to 16241 Education - with all the same apps/files/tweaks as the Pro drive.
Put a copy of the Pro image on E:\, used the Enterprise iso I made when I upgraded the Enterprise version, and upgraded the Pro to Enterprise, with all the apps/files from the Original Pro I had set up.

I am not sure what practical purpose these actions serve, but kept me busy on a hot muggy afternoon.

If nothing else, it was a learning experience. If all you end up with is too many OS's to maintain without going nuts, you gained the fun and accomplishment, and maybe taught yourself something. Nothing wrong with experimenting and invention.

You got that right - I love messing around with things - I now have 3 identical editions of 16421 - it all started because I changed the Office edition on C and thought it might be easier this way than changing the Office edition on each drive.

I love this desktop on the Enterprise edition: Can't read the lettering - USS Enterprise.

I think the People Bar is pretty nifty but then, I've got a Pro Email client I paid for, so...

But, lately, some new features are... eh...

A pleasant surprise today. Logged into Windows 10 after working with Siduction and Windows Server 2016 and fired upl Mail - and it worked perfectly. All IMAP accounts (Gmail and Yahoo) synced perfectly. The machine went to sleep after a backup and came out of sleep normally. Wish I could say it was something I did but it was almost like the build was self-healing. I wish MS would relent and allow builds to be uploaded to buildfeed.net but it appears right now that they pulled the plug.

Gentlemen, you know who I am referring to, please put end to silly verbal jousting.

One thing I have learnt in my life travelling and working abroad is that cultures differ and it is easy to misinterpret people's intentions even just in native English speaking countries e.g.

British and Canadians to a lesser degree tend to face an issue slightly sideways and tend to use a subtle approach. Aussies and US Americans tend to be more direct.

In Europe, we see every shade of grey e.g. Germans tend to be direct, French much less so etc.

I found Danish tended to see things very much in black or white and nowhere in between.

So we should all accept people's intentions are not as we might interpret according to our own cultural bias.

OK - now getting back to topics, I do feel there has recently been an overly strong emphasis on sorting Edge out recently, and other opportunities wasted. Timeline has been pushed back from Autumn Creators Update (example of cultural bias here ) with no new "timeline" or even why?

I feel there is an "immature" attitude in the development team that believes everything has to be so sexy in order to make us fall in love with new features. The banal reimaging of Skype in phones exactly an example of that.

What on Earth Is the New Skype Update?

There are many features I would like to e.g.

    * a good but basic video editor (dropping movie maker was poor decision imo)

    * ability to sysprep without having to uninstall uwp apps

    * Upgrade disk management to properly handle multiple usb flash drive partitions.

    * Update reset function to allow you to keep programs as well (like doing repair upgrade from iso which is a very useful tool)
    * Update hyper-v to allow sound in basic mode.

    * combine all the tools like sysprepping, image backup into a nice simple tool that does it all in one go.

    * Add/improve Chromecast support (would need to cooperate with Google)

    to name a few ideas.

My thinking is that MS should drop all those basic and some times less than remarkable applets when there are tons of third party ones mostly much better to. Instead they should concentrate their efforts on OS itself. Squashing bugs would be my first priority. There's no SW and specially OS that's all bug free and every new feature is practically guaranteed to bring new problems. Just look at UUP, it took how many builds to make it (almost) right ?
I'm still for fast, simple (to use and customize) basic OS with emphasis on security and ease of use. Never mind all those bells and whistles, they are easy enough to ad.

I assume you meant add, not ad as adding ads is all to easy .
